Kotebetta is the third highest peak in Coorg (Kodagu) and is one of the region’s most popular tourist attractions. It is in Madapur, which lies between the towns of Somwarpet and Madikeri.
Kotebetta measures around 5400 ft and is the 3rd highest peak in Coorg after Tadiyandamol and Brahmagiri. kotebetta is about 22 from Kms Madikeri and is located in Madapur which is in between Somwarpet and Madikeri.
The trek to the top of Kotebetta is around 10 kms from the base. There is a Shiva temple on the peak of the hill. Kote Betta means Fort Hill
Kotebetta is an awesome place to trek and the best season for trekking is from October to March. No permission from the authorities is required to trek the hill. Trip My coorg arrange A good local guide will definitely come in handy during the trek.

Trip My coorg. About Pushpagiri betta. At a distance of 70 km from Madikeri, and 33 km from Somvarpet, Pushpagiri is a mountain peak situated in Kodagu district of Karnataka. Pushpagiri is one of the best places for trekking in Coorg and among the top Karnataka trekking places. Our homestay, Cottage, Tree house, Tent house, resort is located in the midst of the Kodagu coffee growing region. In fact, our room looked out over an active coffee plantation. Rather than being a coffee-only plantation, the coffee trees are grown under the shade of large trees and together with other crops like black pepper. This "coffee forest" is full of the sounds of many birds, and bird lovers are afforded easy access to trails. The homestay, Cottage, Tree house, Tent house, resort is quiet and peaceful, with very little traffic or other artificial noise sources. Our room was quite spacious and the bathroom had a good hot shower. The food was very tasty in traditional way. If you would like to get away from it all in Karnataka, this is a good option to consider.

Dubare is known for its elephant camp, a forest camp on the banks of the river Kaveri in the district of Kodagu, Karnataka. It is an important base for the Karnataka Forest Department's elephants.

The elephants for the Mysore Dussehra were trained at Dubare elephant camp[citation needed]. At present, after logging operations have ceased, the elephants have been practically retired except for giving some rides to tourists.[1]

In addition to the elephant training camp, Nisargadhama [clarification needed] and Veerabhoomi [clarification needed] are the other main attractions of the forest area.

There are opportunities for trekking, elephant rides, fishing, and river rafting. These activities are hosted by jungle lodges and resorts. The Forest Department also conducts some treks along well-defined routes.
Wildlife[edit]

A tusker at Dubare
The moist deciduous forests of Dubare are home to many wild animals and birds. Sightings of wild Asiatic elephants are regular and so is spotting the sambhar, the spotted deer, tigers, leopards, wild dogs, and gaur. Bears are also seen in these forests. Crocodiles can be seen in the river. The forests are also home to many reptiles and non-venomous snakes.

Birdlife in Dubare has peacocks, partridges, kingfishers and woodpeckers topping the list.[1]

Getting there[edit]
Dubare is easily accessible from Mangalore which is 173 km away. The route from Bangalore is via Mysore, Kushalanagara, Gudde Hosur (4 km from Kushalanagara on BM Road), then turn towards Siddapura. About 15 kilometer on the Siddapura Main Road visitors would find a Dubare Camp board.

Amusements[edit]
Before reaching the Elephant Camp there are local people who will provide you the joy of still water rafting (Must experience if you are afraid of the real rafting). It is an enjoyable ride which you can enjoy in very cheap price. It is not really a cheap ride, costs approximately Rs.600 per person for a short ride. People are on the bank who will contact you once you reach there.

This Camp has 18 luxurious cottages with attached bath. As this is a comparatively new camp there is no electricity here. However, electricity is provided through electric generator in the mornings and evenings. Located on the other side of the river the Dubare camp offers complete peace and tranquility.

Dubare Elephant camp is a project undertaken by forest department and Jungle Lodges and Resorts Ltd. This camp has plenty of elephants which are trained under naturalists. A trained Naturalist is at hand to explain the various aspects of Elephant history, ecology and biology. The visitor can not only observe and learn but also participate in various activities involving Elephants.
Dubare Elephant camp is a project undertaken by forest department and Jungle Lodges and Resorts Ltd. This camp has plenty of elephants which are trained under naturalists. A trained Naturalist is at hand to explain the various aspects of Elephant history, ecology and biology. The visitor can not only observe and learn but also participate in various activities involving Elephants. The Karnataka Forest Department has about 150 Elephants in various camps and Dubare has been historically an important camp.

The Elephants for the famous Mysore Dasara were trained at Dubare elephant camp. But presently after logging operations have ceased, the Forest Department does not really know what to do with all its elephants! They (elephants) have been practically retired except for giving some rides to odd tourists. At the same time, the Forest Department spends quite some money to maintain them and their mahouts. With this as a background, Jungle Lodges & Resorts (JLR) has struck upon a unique idea to utilize the Elephants at Dubare Camp to provide the tourists with ‘an intimate experience with Elephants’. JLR seeks to build upon the un ending fascination that man has for Elephants! At the Dubare Elephant Camp, a visitor can spend hours simply watching Elephants and of course, learning more about them. A trained Naturalist is at hand to explain the various aspects of Elephant history, ecology and biology. The visitor can not only observe and learn but also participate in various activities involving Elephants. Guests would leave our camp feeling enriched and enlightened about Elephants and hopefully they would become sensitive to their plight in the wild and join the lobby to save them from extinction.

JLR is acutely aware of its role of spreading awareness about conservation and takes its responsibility seriously about converting its visitors into ‘ambassadors of conservation’. I and my friends from the VVIET college went to MugiluPete, Pushpagiri wildlife sanctuary and Dubare which are near to Madikeri.

Mugilupete(Mandalapatti):

MugiluPete (Mugilpete) is around 20-30kms from Madikeri. This place is popularly known as Mandalpatti. It is called as "Mugilupete" due to Kannada film "Galipata". MugiluPete is very cold & almost all the place is covered by mist.

This place comes near to Somwarpete town. Mandala Patti is one of the trekking points in Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary or Pushpagiri Forest Range. Pushpagiri Forest Range spreads from Subrahmanya in Dakshina Kannada district to Somwarpet in Coorg district covering an area of 102.6 sq km. Kumara Parvata Peak stands the tallest amongst the peaks in Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary.

The route is adventurous, with steep curves and zigzag tracks, and Abbi Falls lies along the way. As the roads leading to MandalPatti are narrow, ones who have decided to make it to the beautiful spot need to be a bit adventurous too. But the adventure is worth for the way to the spot is dotted with nature’s bounty as one passes through viewing lush green coffee estates, paddy fields and mountains.

There is an entrance fees (Rs.40 per head/now it is increased to 200) near the view-point (mantapa). If you feel it costly, you can climb any of the adjacent small hills to have an equivalent view. You can camp in this place with the prior permission.

Famous Kannada movie “Galipata” has been shot here. In that film they have shown this place as Mugilu Pete. So after that Mandalpatti became famous as Mugilupete. Only 1 song “Nadhim Ta Na” and last seen of Galipata has been shot here. Many other Kannada films like "Modala Sala", "Raj" has been shot here.

In Mysore-Madikeri state highway you have to take deviation towards "Abby Falls". Then 3kms before Abby Falls you get a y junction where left turn leads to Abby falls and the right mud road will lead you to the Mandalapatti.You have to take right deviation towards Mandalapatti .This road is very bad & it is difficult to go in bike or car. It is better to go in SUV(4wd)s. You can hire jeep from Madikeri which costs around 900 rupees.
