Route Description:-
Second Storey (WI4) is a striking ice climb located in the Ong-Dang Gorge of Mane Yogma. It is positioned just above Drokpa’s Spear (WI5) and is easily visible on the left, sunny side of the gorge. Amidst the rugged, barren landscapes of Spiti Valley, delicate alpine flowers bloom, adding vibrant splashes of color to the high-altitude wilderness. These resilient blooms, found above 3,500 meters, endure extreme cold, strong winds, and scarce oxygen, yet they thrive in rocky crevices and lush meadows fed by glacial streams. From the bright pink of wild primulas to the deep blue of Himalayan gentians, each flower tells a story of survival and adaptation in one of the harshest environments on Earth. These floral gems not only enhance the beauty of Spiti’s remote terrain but also play a crucial role in its fragile ecosystem, providing sustenance for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators in the short alpine summer.

At 72, most people are told to slow down, take it easy, and stay within their comfort zone. But for him, comfort is found in the harsh, unforgiving landscapes of the high-altitude Himalayas. This trek, classified as one of the hardest, tested the endurance of many younger trekkers—yet he moved forward with unwavering determination, his spirit unshaken by the cold, the altitude, or the challenges that lay ahead.

While others caught their breath, he walked on, proving that strength isn’t just in the body but in the mind and heart. His journey wasn’t about proving anything to the world; it was about proving to himself that age is merely a number and that the will to explore, to push boundaries, and to embrace adventure never fades.

And just to add to the legend—he even took breaks to smoke along the way, unfazed by the altitude. Some call it madness, but we call it sheer grit, a lifetime of experience, and an undying passion for the mountains. Here’s to the unstoppable force of nature that he is.
