6. “Two Souls, One Goal: Triumph at Ariyenbror Meadow”
Yesterday, our team embarked on a trek to the beautiful high-altitude meadow locally known as Ariyenbror. Nestled at approximately 3,300 meters above sea level, the meadow promised breathtaking views and a rewarding experience.
We began our trek at 10 AM, with the trail already blanketed in about a foot of snow. The team reveled in the winter wonderland as we ascended toward Gudarwoin, a serene spot where the rest of our group decided to pause and soak in the surroundings. However, Jalal and I remained committed to our goal of reaching Ariyenbror.
As we resumed the trek, the snow deepened to around two feet, making each step a formidable challenge. The gradient became steeper, and the trail grew tougher with every meter. Our hearts raced, with heart rates consistently above 160, but our spirits stayed high. Every step felt like a victory, and we relied on sheer determination and faith to push forward.
The final stretch to the top was particularly brutal and grueling. It took us an hour to conquer the last few hundred meters through the snow-covered slope. With persistence and resilience, Jalal, a small local boy named Nayeem, and I finally reached the summit of Ariyenbror.
The view from the top was worth every ounce of effort. The beauty surrounding us was mesmerizing, a pristine landscape of snow and nature that left us in awe. After spending some time soaking in the grandeur of the meadow, we began our descent to rejoin our teammates at Gudarwoin.
This trek was a testament to the strength of perseverance, the power of teamwork, and the unparalleled beauty of the mountains. It reminded us once again why we venture into the wilderness, pushing limits to embrace the extraordinary.

After a two-week break, the team embarked on a warm-up trek from Gulmarg to Kangdoori, anticipating a change in weather by afternoon. The morning greeted us with clear skies and sunshine, encouraging our decision to stay local instead of venturing to a distant trek.
By the time we reached Kangdoori, the weather had shifted dramatically, blessing us with a heavy snowfall. The pristine white surroundings were mesmerizing, and we soaked in the beauty of the moment. The area was bustling with tourists, all relishing the magic of the snowfall. Amid the rush, we found refuge in a traditional dokh (shepherd’s hut), where we prepared and shared tea and halwa—a comforting treat amidst the winter wonderland.
After enjoying the serene beauty and warmth of the mountains, we began our descent back to Gulmarg. However, the return journey was far from smooth. Due to the snow-covered and slippery roads, combined with heavy tourist traffic, it took us an arduous three hours to reach Tangmarg. Despite the challenges, the trek offered us cherished memories and a refreshing reconnect with the mountains.

Exploring Gagarpathri Gali: A Challenging Mountain Pass at 3,800 Meters
Exploring Gagarpathri Gali: A Challenging Mountain Pass at 3,800 Meters
Our team set out to conquer the formidable Gagarpathri Gali, a mountain pass perched at an elevation of 3,800 meters above sea level. Known for its steep gradient, loose scree, and precarious terrain, the pass demanded both physical endurance and mental resilience. With short winter days and snow adding to the challenge, we prepared ourselves for an arduous adventure, determined to gain 1,500 meters of elevation over a steep and treacherous route.
The trek began at Gowas, a picturesque village in Ashmuqam. Convincing the locals to join us was no small feat, as they were apprehensive about the risks involved. After persistent efforts, one villager agreed to guide us, and we set off with a mix of excitement and trepidation.
The ascent was thrilling from the very start. The trail quickly turned into a labyrinth of loose rocks and scree, making every step an exercise in balance and precision. At one point, a section of the path crumbled underfoot, sending small rocks cascading down the slope, a stark reminder of the danger we faced. The sound of the rocks tumbling into the depths below sent a chill through us, urging us to move carefully yet swiftly.
As we climbed higher, the wind picked up, howling through the narrow pass and sending icy chills down our spines. Visibility began to drop as a light snowstorm enveloped the trail, turning the already unstable terrain into a slick, slippery challenge. Breathing became labored due to the thin air, and our muscles burned with each step. Despite the physical strain, the views grew increasingly mesmerizing, with towering peaks shrouded in mist and the raw beauty of the wilderness all around us.
At one particularly steep section, we had to rely on all fours to scramble up a slippery slope, clutching at rocks and tufts of grass for support. The adrenaline surged as we realized there was no room for error—one misstep could have catastrophic consequence
“Every season paints its own masterpiece.”
Yesterday, our team embarked on an exhilarating adventure to Hejan Top, a breathtaking Top in Naranag, soaring at an elevation of 4,000 meters above sea level. With the recent snowfall, we were well aware that the trail would be slippery and demanding, yet we felt an undeniable sense of excitement as we set off. Our trek began under the starlit sky from Naranag, and within less than two hours, we reached the picturesque Shadimarg. The sight of the snow-covered Mount Harmukh and its surroundings took our breath away, making every arduous step worthwhile.
After savoring some steaming tea, we decided to push forward quickly toward our destination. The snow trail was indeed challenging, with fresh, slippery patches that tested our agility. Despite the obstacles, we pressed on, driven by our goal. Just as we seemed to be closing in on Hejan Top, the weather had other plans for us. A thick blanket of clouds rolled in, obscuring our view and dampening our spirits. We waited for over an hour, hopeful for a change in the weather, but it remained unyielding.
After taking a much-needed lunch break midway, we realized that nature was not inclined to cooperate with our plans that day. With a heavy heart, we made the tough decision to turn back and descend toward Naranag. Though we left with a sense of unfinished business, we held onto the hope that we would return to conquer Hejan Top another day. InshaAllah, our journey will not end here; the mountains will call us back, and we’ll rise to the challenge once more.
