Manikaran is known as an important pilgrimage destination for both Sikhs and Hindus. The hot springs, religious tendencies, and beautiful surroundings attract a lot of people. A good number of temples and Gurudwara, Manikaran Sahib forms the religious pattern of the place.

The Gurudwara is believed to be sacred by the Sikhs and the Hindus, each having their own reasons behind their beliefs. According to Sikhs, Guru Nanak Ji performed several miracles here and Hindus believe that Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati stayed here for almost 1100 years. There are three hot springs where one can take a bath, one being inside the Gurudwara itself and the other two being privatised by the guesthouses. Different sections for men and women are made at the bathing place. The water in these springs contains uranium, sulphur and other radioactive elements which are capable of curing tremendous diseases. The hot springs again have religious and spiritual beliefs connected to it. The spiritual and religious connectivity makes the hot springs holy and a great place for pilgrims to pay a visit. The water is hot enough to prepare food directly for thousands of devotees who visit to attain peace and spirituality. The water is auspicious and is boiling today as well.

Chamunda Devi temple is a famous tourists destination of Himachal Pradesh. Overlooked by the mighty Dhauldhar ranges, the temple is rightly situated on the bank of river Ban Ganga. Every year, a large number of devotees travel to this holistic destination of Himachal Pradesh to get blessings of goddesses 'Chamunda' (Hindu deity). Chamunda Devi Temple is located at distance of 15 km from Dharamsala and at a distance of 10 kms from Palampur. Chamunda is a little station on the Pathankot-Jogindernagar narrow gauge railway track. There is the Chamunda Devi Temple, right on the banks of the Baner River. It is also a pretty picnic spot with a good view of the mountains.

Jawala Ji or Jwala devi temple is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths of India and Jawala Ji Temple is one of the highly venerated Shakti Temples in India. It is situated in the lap of Shivalik range of Kangra valley called “Kalidhar”. This is believed to be the first ever temple built by the Pandavas. Jwala Ji is a Devi Temple Dedicated to the “GODDESS OF LIGHT”, located in Jawala Mukhi, district Kangra of Himachal Pradesh.
Sati’s tongue is believed to have fallen at the very place where Jwala devi Temple is now situated. The Tongue of sati is represented by Holy Flames or Jwala that is perpetually burning. Jwala devi temple as a center of faith is unparallel and unique. There is no deity or idol that is worshiped. It has the series of natural flames or Jyotis since times immemorial believed to be the symbol of Goddess. Jawala Ji is a great heritage centre for not only the people of Jawala Mukhi, Kangra or Himachal Pradesh but of the whole world. During March to April and September to October every year colourful fairs are held during the Navaratra celebration.

समूचा हिमालय शिव शंकर का स्थान है और उनके सभी स्थानों पर पहुंचना बहुत ही कठिन होता है। चाहे वह अमरनाथ हो, केदानाथ हो या कैलाश मानसरोवर। इसी क्रम में एक और स्थान है श्रीखंड महादेव का स्थान। अमरनाथ यात्रा में जहां लोगों को करीब 14000 फीट की चढ़ाई करनी पड़ती है तो श्रीखंड महादेव के दर्शन के लिए 18570 फीट ऊंचाई पर चढ़ना होता है।


यात्रा मार्ग के मंदिर : यह स्थान हिमाचल के शिमला के आनी उममंडल के निरमंड खंड में स्थित बर्फीली पहाड़ी की 18570 फीट की ऊंचाई पर श्रीखंड की चोटीपर स्थित है। 35 किलोमीटर की जोखिम भरी यात्रा के बाद ही यहां पहुंचते हैं। यहां पर स्थित शिवलिंग की ऊंचाई लगभग 72 फिट है। श्रीखंड महादेव की यात्रा के मार्ग में निरमंड में सात मंदिर, जाओं में माता पार्वती का मंदिर, परशुराम मंदिर, दक्षिणेश्वर महादेव, हनुमान मंदिर अरसु, जोताकली, बकासुर वध, ढंक द्वार आदि कई पवित्र स्थान है।

यात्रा के पड़ाव : यहां की यात्रा जुलाई में प्रारंभ होती है जिसे श्रीखंड महादेव ट्रस्ट द्वारा आयोजित किया जाता है। यह ट्रस्ट स्वास्थ्य और सुरक्षा संबंधी कई सुविधाएं प्रशासन के सहयोग से उपलब्ध करवाया है। सिंहगाड, थाचड़ू, भीमडवारी और पार्वतीबाग में कैंप स्थापित हैं। सिंहगाड में पंजीकरण और मेडिकल चेकअप की सुविधा है, जबकि विभिन्न स्थानों पर रुकने और ठहरने की सुविधा है। कैंपों में डॉक्टर, पुलिस और रेस्क्यू टीमें तैनात रहती हैं। यात्रा के तीन पड़ाव हैं:- सिंहगाड़, थाचड़ू, और भीम डवार है।


स्थान से जुड़ी मान्यता : स्थानीय मान्यता अनुसार यहीं पर भगवान विष्णु ने शिवजी से वरदान प्राप्त भस्मासुर को नृत्य के लिए राजी किया था। नृत्य करते करते उसने अपना हाथ अपने ही सिर पर रख लिया और वह भस्म हो गया था। मान्यता है कि इसी कारण आज भी यहां की मिट्टी और पानी दूर से ही लाल दिखाई देते हैं।
