Museum holds Horse drawn carriages, Boat tailed Wooden Speedsters and Shooting Brake-Cars especially made for the affluent. Other vehicles christened by him were Chamunda, Chetak, Pushpak, Caesar and Cleopatra. The image of Rana Sahib of Porbandar can be found just behind his car - the 1940 Lagonda.

This weathered 1920s palace lies 7 km west of Mandvi, amid extensive orchards along a private beach. Originally a summer abode for the Kutch rulers, its first floor is now the main residence of the elderly Maharajah of Bhuj. The view from the roof is impressive and the rooms, with their stuffed wildlife and faded grand furniture, are worth a peek. The sandstone structure has extensive jali work, coloured glass, domed bastions and murals and the influence of the Kutch community of artisans and their unique style is evident.

Brief History: Only 27km from Ahmedabad, the Thol Lake Sanctuary is made up of a reservoir that was created in 1912 as an irrigation tank when the Maharajas of Baroda (Gaekwads) ruled the region. The lake, and the area around, was declared a sanctuary only in 1988, as it is home to a large number of avian species.

The sanctuary has flocks of indigenous and migratory birds, with as many as 250 species passing through in the winters. Ducks, geese, eagles, spoonbills, cranes, pelicans and flamingos are best seen at daybreak and dusk. Wild asses and black bucks are also commonly seen in the lush region. There is an interpretation centre here which offers details on birds and the habitat, especially flamingos, pelicans, egrets, herons, ducks, cormorants and cranes. Nalsarovar is a proposed Ramsar Convention site, which is a list of wetlands of international importance.

About The Place: A scenic town, Madhavpur is situated on a sandy coastline and is endowed with coconut trees and fertile agriculture land. It hosts the beautiful Madhavraiji Haveli Temple in addition to the Rukmini no choro, which marks the place where celebrated with an annual fair held by the Mer community. Nearby are the ruins of a shiva temple, probably from the 12th c. The beach is not safe for swimming, but perfect for taking in the sea breeze.

From Dwarka, head for the beaches of Shivrajpur just 15 minutes north of the Rukmani temple.
