While the first climb of about 3080 mts was covered in three days, the next 3300mts will be divided between two days. Given the fact that we are in much higher altitude with freezing temperatures, this is the most challenging section of the entire tour.

The Road to Tawang

Considering the present situation, it's pointless dwelling in reality so we are jumping right back into hypothetical travels of North by northeast journeys. One must bear in mind that all this is possible in a world where borders etc are open for travel.
Let's just say it's the urge to eat some scrumptious Tajik and Afghan food that starts this quest. On a warm Monday morning in the month of June we head out of our base in Tezpur ( let's not waste good weekends to travel), the destination is a small settlement called Eshkashem / Ishkashim lying the the Afghan side of its border with Tajikistan in the beautiful Wakhan valley.
Photos in order from east to west, all enroute. We don't follow the G219 highway, as much as possible keeping to small inner roads.

2. The steel steed all locked and loaded
3. Entering China at the Bumla pass.
4. Views of the Pumayamko and Yamdrok lakes
5. Mt.Everest and Cho oyu from Tingri Dzong
6. Filling gas at Baga
7. Mansarovar and Rakshastal lakes.
8. The first view of Horan and the Taklamakan desert as you leave the Tiberian plateau.
9. Entering the Wakhan corridor and Tajikistan from Khasgar side.
10. Final destination after travelling 5,000km. A nice cold beer and some Tajik food.

Of late the Upper Dibang valley has come into focus. About an hour's cycling from this point is where the controversial Dam is being planned. As you cycle you follow the beautiful turquoise waters of Dibang river. No matter how many times you do this, the rich nature of this region never ceases to boggle you. It will be a pity if the dam actually comes up.
