Legendary story ,Ganesh Purana : The handsome prince Rukmangad refused sage Vachaknavi's wife Mukunda's illicit call, and was cursed to suffer from leprosy. Indra deceived her as Rukmangad and she bore a child by name Grutsamad. When Grutsamad came to know about the real story he cursed his mother Mukunda to become the tree of Bori and she in turn cursed him to bore a demon son named Tripurasur, the one who was defeated by Shiva after praying Ganapati. Grutsamad after getting cursed went to the forest of Pushpak and worshipped Ganesh. Sage Grutsamad is famous for the mantra Gananam Tva ( Prayer for protection). He named Ganapati as Varad-Vinayak.( Vinayak the original name of Bhagwan Ganapati before he was elephant headed)
History : The idol was found in the adjoining lake (to Mr. Dhondu Paudkar in 1690 a trader who decided to clean the lake). In 1725 Mr. Ramji Mahadev Biwalkar ( Governor of Northern Konkan during the reigns of Peshwa Baji Rao I and Balaji Baji Rao constructed the temple.Oil lamp in the temple is said to be constantly burning since 1892.Varad Vinayak Temple is the only temple in the Astha Vinayak circuit where devotees are allowed to personally pay their homage and respects to the idol. Temple is open through out the year ( 24x7 )

History :
Nichidatsu Fujii founder of the Nipponzan-Myohoji- Daisanga ( Japan ) order of Nichiren Buddhism, came to India in 1931 with a group of Buddhist monks.
Nichidatsu Fujii also playing a key role in Indias freedom struggle.
Temple was constructed in the year 1956 by Birla Trust and is maintained by the same trust.

Only Japanese Buddhist Temple with a connect to Indias Freedom Struggle in Mumbai .

At the end of the Dwapar Yuga before the onset of Kali Yuga (present era) many saints and sages feared the advent of Kali Yuga. Sages started performing yagnya and prayers seeking Krishna’s help to overcome all effects of Kali Yuga. Sages led by Valakhilya started rituals in Kunjavana, a forest area on the banks of river Sharavati .Due to multiple obstacles he sought the intervention of Narad Muni and worshipped Ganapati.

Now this place is known as Idgunji and the temple was constructed by locals in the 4th century.
Ancient books and legendary stories mentions this Ganapati as Vinayaka Devaru.

Murdeshwar one of the oldest Bhagwan Shiva Temple.Murdeshwar that’s how this town got its name. A fine example of the architecture of the Kings of Vijayanagar, the temple attracts tourists from all over the world.

The linga is believed to be a piece of the original Atma Linga and is about two feet below ground level.

Town named after Bhagwan Ganapati.

According to local folklore, Ganapati, taking umbrage at a remark made by a native lady, moved to P**e (a few km before the town) from his original abode of P**e. Thus the region was named Ganapatipule.

The 400-year-old Ganapati idol at Ganpatipule is said to have sprung up from the soil. This deity faces the west, so as to guard the western gates, unlike deities of many temples who face east. The temple is at the base of a hill, and pilgrims walk around 1 km (pradakshina) the hill as a mark of respect.
The God is considered to be the Paschim Dwarpalak (Western Sentinel God of India).

Ganapatipule beach is one of the cleanest beach in India.
