The Hoolock gibbons of Barekuri are a unique population of Western Hoolock Gibbons found in the Tinsukia district of Assam, India.
These gibbons are fascinating creatures known for their:-
Acrobatic skills: With long and strong arms, they can swing through the dense canopy with incredible agility, rarely touching the ground.
Duets: Hoolock gibbons are known for their loud and haunting calls, which typically come in morning and evening choruses. These calls help them defend their territory and attract mates.
Monogamy: Unlike many other primates, Hoolock gibbons form monogamous pairs that stay together for life. They are very affectionate and caring parents.
The Barekuri Hoolock Gibbons are an endangered species due to habitat loss and fragmentation. However, the local communities have taken a keen interest in their conservation. They have even established the Barekuri Hoolock Gibbon Sanctuary to protect these amazing apes.

Here are some interesting facts about the Hoolock Gibbons of Barekuri:

Endangered status: The Hoolock Gibbon is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
Threats: Habitat loss due to deforestation, encroachment by human settlements, and illegal hunting are the biggest threats to their survival.
