Vishvaksena, also known as Senai Mudalvar or Senadhipathi, meaning "Army Chief," serves as the commander-in-chief of Lord Vishnu’s army and acts as the gatekeeper of Vaikuntha, Vishnu’s heavenly abode. In many Vaishnava traditions, rituals or ceremonies begin with his worship, reflecting his significance. He holds a special place in Vaikhanasa and Pancaratra temple traditions, where festivals often start with his procession.

According to the Kurma Purana, Vishvaksena was born from a part of Vishnu and carries the conch (shankhu), Sudarshana chakra (discus), gada (mace), and a lotus. Like Vishnu, he is depicted wearing yellow garments and bears the "Srivatsa" mark, symbolizing Vishnu's divine attributes.

On October 13, 2024, the BHAG SAVARI festival was celebrated at Tirumala, a day after the Brahmotsavam. This festival symbolizes the bond between Lord Venkateswara and His devotee Ananthalwar. According to legend, the Lord and Goddess Padmavathi, disguised as humans, destroyed Ananthalwar’s flower gardens to test his devotion. Ananthalwar tied the Goddess to an Aswatha tree, while the Lord escaped running anti-clockwise. Realizing his mistake, he later reunited the Goddess with the Lord. In honor of this, the festival is held with an anti-clockwise procession.
