#गोवर्धन पूजा - प्राचीन क्रांति की स्मृतियां

वर्षा के देवता और वैदिक काल के असंख्य युद्धों के नायक देवराज इंद्र वैदिक काल के सबसे शूरवीर और प्रतापी देवता रहे थे। उनकी सत्तालोलुपता, छल-कपट और कामुकता साल तक उनकी प्रभुता कायम रही। इंद् की सत्ता के विरुद्ध पहला विद्रोह द्वापर युग में हुआ और उसके नायक बने किशोर वय के श्री कृष्ण। पुराणों के अनुसार एक बार अतिवृष्टि से गोकुल और वृंदावन जलमग्न हो चले थे। वहां के निवासियों ने अपनी और अपने पशुधन की रक्षा के लिए इंद्र से गुहार लगाई। उन्हें प्रसन्न करने के लिए वैदिक यज्ञों और अनुष्ठानों का एक लंबा सिलसिला चला, लेकिन भरपूर 'हवि' पाने के बाद भी इन्द्र मेहरबान नहीं हुए। जलप्रलय की आसन्न स्थिति देखकर कृष्ण ने अहंकारी इंद्र को समर्पित तमाम वैदिक अनुष्ठान बंद करा दिए। उन्होंने गोकुल और वृन्दावन के लोगों को ऊंगली के इशारे से गोवर्द्धन पर्वत की ओर चलने का संकेत किया। उनकी बात मानकर लोगों ने अपने परिवार, धन-धान्य और पशुओं के साथ गोवर्द्धन पर्वत की शरण लेकर अपनी और अपने पशुओं की रक्षा की। माना जाता है कि उसी दिन से देवराज इंद्र की पूजा बंद हुई और गोवर्द्धन पर्वत के प्रति कृतज्ञता-ज्ञापन की परंपरा का आरम्भ हुआ। उस युग के संदर्भ में देखें तो एक धर्मभीरु समाज में शक्तिशाली इंद्र को वैदिक काल से चले आ रहे उनके गौरव से अपदस्थ कर देना स्थापित सत्ता और मान्यताओं के विरुद्ध कृष्ण का क्रांतिकारी कदम था। उस दिन के बाद देवराज इंद्र अपना खोया हुआ गौरव कभी दुबारा हासिल नहीं कर सके। गोवर्द्धन पूजा या अन्नकूट का पर्व उसी युगांतरकारी घटना की स्मृति है। यह उत्तर भारत के पशुपालकों का सबसे बड़ा पर्व है जिसमें पशुधन की सेवा और उसके गोबर से प्रतीकात्मक आकृति गढ़कर गोवर्द्धन पर्वत के प्रति श्रद्धा निवेदित की जाती है।
