Via Rishikesh – 270 km / 9h (Rishikesh – Chamba – Chiniyalisour – Uttarkashi- Gangotri)

Arrive at Dehradun/Rishikesh and pick up will be arranged from parade ground (Dehradun) or Natraj chowk (Rishikesh) in the early morning.The drive to Gangotri will vary from 8-10 hours depending on the weather conditions. Gangotri, considered as one of the Chardhams is where the trek begins. People perform Karmakand ( offerings to God ) as a sign of respect to seek blessings from the almighty. Gangotri temple, Snana Ghat, Gori kund, Surya kund, Pandu Gufa are some of the highlights of this place. Day 2: Trek Gangotri to Chirbasa -

The trek, from Gangotri to Chirbasa starts early in the morning. The trek to Chirbasa is 9 km with gradual ascents. The first landmark is the forest check post which lies at a distance of 2 km where you get your ID’s checked and proceed towards to Chirbasa. Bhaghirathi river below towards your right. Sudarshan will show up to you as you make your gradual ascent and after about 1.5 hours of trek you no longer get to see MT. The next section takes you to a series of boulders wherein you reach a set of dhabas or tea stalls and Chirbasa is about 15-20 minutes from here. The forest check post leads to the trail to the camping area and a forest hut is also available here. Overstay halt here in tents. Day 3: Chirbasa to Bhojbasa

The trail starts from the original path to Gumukh trail and Chirbasa campsite is seen below to your right side. After a few minutes, you get a closer view of Bhagirathi massif and look for a river stream towards your left. Note that this path is a landslide prone area and keep an eye for falling rocks and ensure safety measures. Make your way pass this section swiftly and a log bridge is to be crossed and Bhojbasa is 2 hours away. The walk is a gradual one from here and a part of Gaumukh glacier is visible from here. You get to camp beside the Bhagirathi river and the first view of Mt. Shivling is visible from here. Day 4: Bhojbasha to Khadapathar (Via Tapovan)

Note - On Tapovan Meadow camping is not allowed as per rules by Uttarakhand govt. After an early breakfast, , we head towards Tapovan via Gaumukh. This day we carry packed lunch. The trek to Gaumukh is 4km with gradual ascents. We cross the Bhagirathi river using trolley lines installed over the river. You get closer views of the Bhagirathi massif. The river is towards your left and upon reaching Gaumukh ( Origin of Bhagirathi river ), we relax for a while and get to capture views of the Gaumukh glacier right in front of us. The next stretch to Tapovan is a steep ascent of 5km. Note that the Bhagirathi river is right far below us. This route consists of boulders and a small river stream of Akash ganga keeps showing up which is seasonal in terms of water source. Make sure to fill your water bottles at Gaumukh itself. Upon reaching Tapovan, you get to view Mt.Shivling at its best with full glory right in front of you followed by Mt.Meru to your right. Tapovan is an alpine meadow (camping not allowed as per rules by Uttarakhand govt.) and a level walk of 2km will take you to the camping site at Khadapathar. Overnight stay at Khadapathar. Day 5 - Khadapathar to Bhojbasa

The trek back to Gangotri is the same trail taken to reach Bhojbasa camp. It’s a very gradual descent, which takes far less time to cover than the ascent. Yes, again you have to cross the rocky terrain and moraines of the glacier. Descending is difficult than ascending they say, you will realize this now as you make your way around the boulders. Watch your step and move gradually. Try to relive the moments while you retrace your steps. Walk down the terrain alongside Bhagirathi River. It will be a 5-6 hours trek till Bhojbasa. Day 6- Bhojbasa to Gangtari

After early breakfast move to Gangotri, You will cross the landslide prone area, then you will be back to the same pine forests campsite. Continue walking on the path to back to the till Gangotri. You can capture pictures different angle of the valley with wintry Bhagirathi River. Today will take 4/5 h trek to reach Gangotri. In Ganotri stay in hotel. Day 7- Gangotri to Dehardun/Rishikesh
