RoboVITics is the official robotics club of VIT University, Vellore roboVITics is the first technical club that has been set up in VIT University, Vellore.

It was founded on October 22, 2010 by Kumar Utkarsh (B.Tech EEE, 2007-11) and Aayush Agrawal (B.Tech EIE, 2008-12). The club has been functioning with the students and for the students since then. Team roboVITics has had hands on experience of participation and has won several prizes and accolades in various colleges across India like IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, NIT Trichy, Sastra University, etc. The

team organizes various free hands-on workshops, seminars and practical sessions that help out students to know more about robots and build their own projects as well as help them in preparing them for various competitions. The team also organizes several competitions and events for various colleges across India. Team roboVITics is also indulged in several social outreach programmes, where we go and teach the children of various underprivileged schools about science, robotics and electronics. The members of the club are encouraged to work on some interesting projects as well related to robotics, control, automation, computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI). Some of the ongoing projects of the club are:

Persistence of Vision

Gesture Keyboard Controller allows you to play games involving key controls such as some popular titles using hand gestures. This project was developed using OpenCV, Mediapipe, and c-type libraries in python. A gesture can be mapped to a specific key on the keyboard (for example The space bar is activated by raising any two fingers of the same hand)!

Future features will include eye tracking for 360-degree cursor movement, which can be employed in FPS video games like Call of Duty.

Controlling video games using hand gestures

Cengo is a program that allows users to play any pc video game using their hand signs and movements instead of using a mouse and keyboard. It uses OpenCV python script to access the user’s webcam, Mediapipe from Google to recognize hands, color detection for mouse movements, and PyAutoGUI library of python to emulate keypresses. The combination of these allows users to play games using hand signs.
