Here are some interesting facts about the Independence day of the United States:
1. Only 2 people signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4 in the year 1776.
2. August 2, 1776 was the date when most people signed the Declaration of Independence
3. Out of the first five American Presidents, three died on this date. In fact, the Founding Fathers Thomas Jefferson and John Adams both died on the same date, i.e. July 4, 1826, on the 50th anniversary of the nations Independence.
4. Most of the Founding Fathers agreed that July 4 is the perfect day to celebrate America's independence from the Great Britain except John Adams.
5. Adams thought July 2 should be declared as America's Independence Day because on July 2, the Second Continental Congress voted in Philadelphia to declare independence from Britain.
6. Legend has it that four immigrants got into an argument over who was most patriotic. To prove themselves, they ate as many hot dogs as they could . Since then, July 4 Hot Dog contest has become an annual tradition in the country.
7. Denmark, England, Norway, Portugal and Sweden too celebrate this day. This is because thousands of people emigrated to the U.S. in the early 1900s. Some European celebrations also take place sometime around the 4th and near tourist destinations, to attract U.S. travellers, or near American military bases.
8. The population of America was 2.5 million when the Declaration was signed.
9. The Philippines celebrates the U.S.-Philippines Friendship Day on July 4 as this was the day when Philippines earned its independence from America.
10. The 30th President of America, Calvin Coolidge, was born on July 4 in 1872.

16 Facts About India’s Republic Day Every Indian Should Know.
#1. January 26, 1930 was earlier celebrated as India’s Independence Day or Purna Swaraj Day. It’s the day India decided to fight for complete freedom.
#2. The first Republic Day was celebrated on January 26, 1950, three years after we got independence.
#3. After we achieved Independence on August 15 in 1947, our leaders wanted January 26 to be remembered in history as well. Therefore, the day was made to coincide with the day of Swaraj.
#4. Republic Day Celebrations are a 3-day long affair.
#5. The celebrations end on January 29 with the Beating Retreat ceremony. The ceremony is held Vijay Chowk where bands of the Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Indian Navy perform.
#6. The first R-Day parade at Rajpath was held in 1955.
#7. India’s Constitution is the longest in the world. It has a total of 448 articles.
#8. The Constitution is written in Hindi and English.
#9. Drafting the Constitution was a herculean task. Dr B.R. Ambedkar took 2 years and 11 months to draft the Indian Constitution.
#10. Our leaders took the best aspects from other countries’ constitutions. The concept of liberty, equality and fraternity came from the French constitution while the Five-Year Plans came from the USSR constitution.
#11. Before the Constitution came into force, India followed British Government’s Government of India Act 1935.
#12. Republic day is chosen as the day to give away bravery awards to deserving candidates. The awards that are given away are Veer Chakra, Maha Veer Chakra, Param Veer Chakra, Kirti Chakra and Ashoka Chakra.
#13. The Prime Minister places a wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti as a mark of respect to the thousands of soldiers of the country who had died fighting for the Indian Independence.
#14. The 21 gun salute is the firing of arms and canons as a naval and military mark of honor. The salute is given while the President of India unfurls the National flag.
#15. The Constitution came into a legal circulation at 10:18 AM on the 26th of January, 1950.

10 Facts About Indian Flag

On this republic day, we bring to you some of the facts and information about the national flag of India that we all Indians should be knowing about

#1.

The national flag of India was adopted in its present form during a meeting of the Constituent Assembly held on 22 July 1947, when it became the official flag of the Dominion of India.

#2.

The flag was designed by Pingali Venkayya, an agriculturist and Indian freedom fighter.

#3.

The national flag of India, by law, is to be made of khadi, a special type of hand-spun cloth of cotton or silk made popular by Mahatma Gandhi.

#4.

The right to manufacture the national flag of India is held by the Khadi Development and Village Industries Commission, who in turn allocates it to the regional groups.

#5.

The national flag of India is also known by the term ‘tricolour’, Tirangā in Hindi. Reason for this is the three dominant colors in the flag, saffron, white and green. These two terms in India always refer to the national flag.

#6.

The three colors have different representations each.
=>The Saffron color represents courage and sacrifice.
=>White represents truth, peace and purity.
=>The Green color represents prosperity.

#7.

The Ashok Chakra represents the Laws of Dharma (righteousness).

#8.

According to the Flag code of India, the Indian flag has a ratio of two by three, where the length of the flag is 1.5 times that of the width and all three stripes of the flag – saffron, white and green – should be equal in width and length.

The size of the Ashoka Chakra was not specified in the Flag code, but the Ashoka Chakra must have twenty-four spokes that are evenly spaced. The Ashoka Chakra is rendered in a Navy-blue color on the white stripe of the flag.

The Ashoka Chakra or wheel is from the Lion Capital of Ashoka. According to Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, second President of the Republic of India, the chakra was chosen as it was representative of dharma and law.
