Iran’s Ecbatana added to UNESCO World Heritage list

This prestigious recognition marks Ecbatana, better known as Hegmataneh in Iran, as the country’s 28th UNESCO World Heritage label, underscoring the country’s rich heritage and cultural legacy.

The decision was made today(27 July 2024) during the 46th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in New Delhi, India, where delegates from around the globe convened to review nominations from various countries. The inclusion of Hegmataneh highlights its extraordinary contribution to human civilization and its role in shaping the cultural landscape of the region.

Let's enjoy the Dorud – Andimeshk route, one part of the marvelous 866-mile Trans-Iranian Railway connecting the Caspian Sea in the northeast with the Persian Gulf in the southwest.
The railway was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2021 as one of the engineering masterpieces of the 20th century.
Dorud – Andimeshk route crosses the Zagros Mountains in the west part of Iran.
The route is a showcase of stunning landscapes and sceneries. The train moves along a spiral path, passing highlands, bridges over rivers, dense oak-tree forests, plains, and tunnels.
The highest bridges and longest tunnels of the Trans-Iranian Railway were built in this rough mountainous area, and that is one of the most extraordinary features of the Trans-Iranian Railway.
