Cold today and this is as far as the sun gets down into the fjord. Hopefully the ice will get thick enough so we can go skating. It’s been around 20 years since last time!

We had the pleasure of assisting Financial Times on an assignment this summer and here is the result. The writer, Oliver Smith follows in the footsteps of his grandfather that served at the radar station situated in the remote Hornstrandir during the Second World War. The mission was trying to solve the mystery of his grandfather's woollen jumpers!

In his grandfather’s footsteps, Oliver Smith heads to a tiny off-grid community at the tip of the Hornstrandir peninsula

The most remote hike is of course in Hornstrandir Nature Reserve 🙂

“Uninhabited since the 1950s, the reserve is blossoming from an environmental perspective; since the last residents left, and with a hunting ban now in place, local species like the Arctic Fox thrive, while seals flock to the rocks against the water.”

Tropical atolls, distant hikes and hot springs, and wild jungles and mountaintops lure adventurous travelers to these beautiful far flung spots

When the sea is rough and guests are a bit nervous, it's good to have a captain that can ease their minds. Here, Þorsteinn Másson performs a song that all Icelanders know and was composed by Halldór Laxness, our Noble Prize winner in literature. Luckily, on board was also the great accordion player, Hrólfur Vagnsson that runs the Old Doctor's House in Hesteyri. This is so good!

The Borea Experience

Real Adventures for everyone...! Borea Adventures is a small company, owned and operated by people who love being outdoors and enjoy the nature and culture of the North Atlantic. We like to share our experience by giving people access to these areas through safe and fun filled adventures. Borea Adventures adheres to the principles of low impact, sustainable tourism. Our trips are "silent", as we try not to use any motorized vehicles. We like to encourage physical activity to suit any level of ability from easy sailing and hiking through to exhilarating action sports. We rely on local knowledge and respect local culture. We take great pride in using only guides with a thorough knowledge of the local nature and history. For our mouth watering cuisine we use primarily ingredients from the areas we travel in.
