Green banks, a spring feed river… and a chrome-bright beauty. 🎣

This was Árni’s moment – a calm summer evening on the West Rangá, June 28, two years ago.

No pressure, no rush. Just a clean take, steady hands, and a beautiful hen salmon.😍

Dreaming of prime time salmon fishing in Iceland?

Mid-July to mid-August on the West Rangá is one of the best times of the season for the river. It’s when we typically see strong runs of Atlantic salmon making their way up the river.

Whether you’re chasing your first salmon or your fiftieth, the West Rangá offers a stunning setting, easy access, and unforgettable memories for anglers of all experience levels.

We’d love to see you on the river this summer!

Throwback to 2014, when Stefán, co-owner of Iceland Outfitters, landed this incredible ice-age brown trout on the Svörtuklettar beat at Lake Thingvallavatn. 🎣

We now offer day tours to Svörtuklettar, a spectacular fishing spot located on the northern shores of Lake Thingvallavatn – just a 15-minute drive from Thingvellir National Park and about 40 minutes from the Reykjavík area.🗻

While the brown trout are often the main attraction in Lake Thingvallavatn, many anglers find that Arctic char fishing can offer a more consistent and enjoyable experience – especially as the season moves into summer. These native fish are found in shallower waters and tend to respond well to smaller nymphs and lighter tackle.

Spring opening is just around the corner! 🥳

We’re so excited for the upcoming season—and a few of our favorite rivers open as early as April 1st!
🌊 West Rangá, Leirá, and Hólaá will be few of the first to welcome anglers this spring.

We still have availability for some spring action, catching either local or sea-run brown trout in April and May. 🎣

There’s something about fly fishing in Iceland that’s hard to explain.
It’s not just about the fish—it’s the silence, the space, the stillness between casts.🎣

It’s the way time slows down, and how the smallest moment can stay with you forever.✨

Here’s a waterfall we don’t see as often! 🌊

This is Árbæjarfoss on the West Rangá River. It’s the second-lowest waterfall in the river, with Ægisíðufoss falls just downstream—the one that usually gets all the attention. But Árbæjarfoss is just as beautiful! 🤩

Fun fact: There are 11 waterfalls in the West Rangá River, but the majority of them are high up in the system and pretty remote!

The West Rangá River has some amazing scenery!

Counting down the days! 👀

The next season is just around the corner! 🎣 Only 24 days until the trout season opens and 75 days until the start of salmon season in Iceland—we can’t wait!

The salmon in this photo was caught at Urriðafoss waterfall in early June two years ago. What an unforgettable moment!

Plan ahead to secure your perfect adventure! 🌍🎣🏞️

We’ve received a lot of inquiries in the past few days about fishing—both for day tours and longer trips in West Rangá River.

Iceland is a dream destination for many, but fishing permits are limited and can often be sold out quickly, especially during peak season. Finding a guide on short notice can also be challenging, so we highly recommend booking in advance to secure your preferred dates.

Last-minute availability is never guaranteed, and we’d hate for you to miss out on the trip of a lifetime.
