Öxarárfoss waterfall is actually human-made. waterfall. The river Öxará was moved hundreds of years ago, to channel the water into the ravine Almannagjá in the ninth century. The purpose was to provide water for the members and visitors of the Icelandic parliament Althingi in the 9th century. This was documented in the saga Sturlunga written in the 12th and the 13th century.

In our 3 day tour north. We do usually stay overnight close to the Iceland guided tours family farm. In our family all member tribute the farm wether it is planting trees or cleaning up at the farm. Tis the season for Laufabrauð or "leaf bread",🍃 sometimes also called "snowflake bread"❄ in English. It is a traditional kind of Icelandic bread that is most often eaten in the Christmas season.🎄 Originating from northern Iceland but now eaten throughout the country, it consists of round, very thin flat cakes, decorated with leaf-like, geometric patterns and fried briefly in hot fat or oil.
