The Eart is trembling now in Grindavík and on the Reykjanes peninsula. Most of the Earthquakes are between Mt.Keilir and Mt Fagradalsfjall where the eruption took place last year. There have been almost 50 Earthquakes from 3 to 4.8 on the Richter scale for the past 24 hours. We are waiting for another Eruption in the area!

Ubrellas are usually useless in Iceland! Its very rare for the rain to fall directly down. It is usually sideways... from any direction at any given point in time. When we see umbrellas we sort of assume it is a tourist underneath and very soon the umbrella ends up in the garbage.

Leif Ericsson (Leifur "Heppni" Eiríksson) the "lucky one" discovered North America in the year 1000 AD some 480 years before Christopher Columbus. We also have information on Columbus visiting Iceland ten years before "discovering" America, staying here for one winter and of course learning about where to go! All the information has been known and written in the Sagas hundred years before. Saga actually means History in Icelandic.

Bumblebees can't fly until they have reached a body temperature of 30°C (86°F) and that is never the temperature in Iceland. So! How can they fly? Well first they uncouple their wing muscle so that the wings themselves don't move. Moving the muscles then heats up the body. When enough heat has been generated they couple the wings back on and fly. If they over heat they move the heat to the lower body.

The first settlerers in Iceland, the Vikings from Norway probably are responsible for bringing more mammals with them than they wanted to. The Mouse is one of them.

The Icelandic horse is a very special breed being the only horse in the world born with five gates. The two in addition to the traditional walk, trot and canter are Tölt (tolt) and Skeið (flying pace). Tölt is very special, the horse only touches the ground with one foot at the time but still it is so smooth that you can hold a glass if wine without spilling. Of course a horse would have to be able to do this for drinking vikings 😉🤣.

Strokkur is the only geyser that spouts today in Iceland. It's eruptions go up to 30 meters or about 100 feet. The geyser does this every five to ten minutes.

An Eruption in Iceland year 1783 had great impact on all life on Earth. One thing leads to another and in a world that is imperfect with many different classes from the poor to the aristocrats one "minor" event in Iceland can have drastical consequences. The Eruption took only eight months and not only killed one fourth of the population in Iceland but also destroyed the wheat flour crops in Europe two or three years in a row. Poor people starved watching the rich having plenty and that lead to an uprising, a Revolution, the French Revolution! So we can maybe thank the Eruption in Iceland for Democracy in Europe.
