As many Icelanders we at Blackbird participated this weekend in celebrations at Thingvellir National Park as the nation celebrates it's 80th year as a republic. We had a wonderful day in beautiful weather; hiked one of the many hiking trails in the area and sang with our president who also gave a speach reminding us of Thingvellir's important role in our history and how far we have come since our republic was formed in 1944.

There is never a dull moment in Iceland. A new volcanic eruption started in the Reykjanes Peninsula this morning and is clearly visible from the capital. No immediate danger and flights are not affected but the Blue Lagoon has been evacuated as a precaution, since it is located close to the eruption site.

We are happy to announce that starting this year our season will start on May 1 instead of June 1 and end on September 30 instead of August 31.
