Standout Beaches in Iceland:

📍Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach: Reynisfjara Beach, celebrated by National Geographic as one of the best beaches in the world.
📍Diamond Beach: Glistening icebergs scattered across black volcanic sands, offer a surreal and breathtaking experience.
📍Sólheimasandur: It’s fun to explore, not least for the crashed DC-3 that’s been abandoned there for more than half a century since coming down in a storm.
📍Djúpalónssandur: It’s sometimes dubbed the Black Lava Pearl Beach and its rugged terrain is as dramatic as it is beautiful.
📍Skarðsvík beach: Located on the north-western tip of the coast on the Snæfellsnes peninsula, Skarðsvík is another of Iceland’s most magnificent beaches, yet is often overlooked by visitors.
📍Rauðisandur: Rauðisandur Beach is a local favourite for its golden-red sands, a serene contrast to Iceland's usual rugged shores.
📍Stokksnes: Vestrahorn is one of the gems of East Iceland and the view of this landmark mountain across the dunes and sands of Stokksnes is one of the country’s most photogenic.
📍Nauthólsvík: This geothermal beach has been a popular visitor attraction since it opened more than two decades ago., and is conveniently located in Reykjavík.

🌋 What you should know about the latest volcanic eruption in Reykjanes 🌋
A new fissure eruption started on Reykjanes Peninsula on November 20, at 11:14 PM by Sundhnúksgígar crater, marking the seventh eruption since December 2023.
The current eruption is considerably smaller than the last eruption.

✈️ Keflavík Airport remains fully operational. Flights have not been affected by the recent volcanic activity and continue to run on schedule.

📍The eruption's effects are localized to the eruption site with road closures and do not threaten people.

⛔️ The eruption area is closed, and authorities advise visitors to avoid attempting to access the site. Respect the commands and closures.

⛔️ Grindavík and the Blue Lagoon have been closed and are inaccessible to visitors until further notice from the authorities.

🚍 All tours outside the Reykjanes area are operating as usual. All services in Iceland are operating as usual.

However, the smoke and glowing lava are visible from various locations in Reykjavík, including the Sky Lagoon and Perlan's observation deck.

When planning a trip to Iceland in winter, it's essential to pack smartly to stay warm and comfortable while enjoying the stunning landscapes. Here are some clothing recommendations for your Icelandic adventure:
✔️Layering is Key:
Start with a moisture-wicking base layer to keep sweat away from your skin. Add an insulating layer like a fleece or down jacket to trap heat, and finish with a waterproof and windproof outer layer to protect against the elements.

✔️Warm Accessories:
A good quality beanie, scarf, and gloves are crucial. Choose thermal or woollen materials to keep your extremities warm. Consider bringing a neck gaiter or balaclava for extra protection against the wind.

✔️ Sturdy Footwear:
Opt for waterproof boots with good grip to handle icy and snowy conditions. Thick, thermal socks will help keep your feet warm and dry.

✔️Sun Glasses:
Bring sunglasses and sunscreen to protect your eyes and skin. In winter, whilst there is only 4-6 hours of sunlight, it can sit on the horizon, always in your eyeline.

✔️Swimwear:
YES, you will need this! For a relaxing dip in one of Iceland's many hot springs or geothermal pools.

Save this packing list, and be ready to experience the elements of Iceland!

Iceland is home to thousands of waterfalls, each with unique qualities, from towering heights to seasonal appearances. Discover Seljalandsfoss: a must-see waterfall on every Iceland itinerary. Like nearby Skógafoss, it cascades over ancient sea cliffs that are now inland, having formed during the last Ice Age when the sea level in the area was much higher. The top layer of rock is lava, which overlays palagonite tuff and breccia.

Here’s what you should know: 💭
💁‍♀️Our most important tip: Wear waterproof gear for the best experience! If you plan to walk behind the waterfall, be prepared for a thorough soaking.
🚶Walk Behind the Fall: This 60-metre waterfall offers a unique view from behind the cascade—just be ready for a splash! But do note that during winter, it can be icy and the path behind is inaccessible; nevertheless, it is still simply magical!
⌚Best Time to Visit: For self-drive, enjoy early mornings or late evenings to avoid crowds. However, in winter, you need to take into account the daylight hours.
📍Nearby Gems: Don’t miss Gljúfrabúi, a hidden waterfall nearby, tucked inside a canyon.
The turnoff for the ferry over to the Westman Islands is nearby, while Skógafoss waterfall is another 20 minutes or so further on.

Have you been wondering why the Aurora appears in different colours? And how does this happen? They can exhibit a variety of colours, with green being the most common. These colours result from different gases in the atmosphere getting excited by the solar particles; oxygen emits green and red hues, while nitrogen gives off blue and purple.
