A glimpse of a glacier hike at Skaftafell from traveller, Dave Mani "To explore the ice in Iceland, we decided to go on an amazing glacier hike on a glacier called Falljökull which translates to Falling Glacier. Being able to walk on one of the largest glaciers in the world and learn about it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that cannot be missed. This was organized by Icelandic Mountain Guides by Icelandia." https://www.facebook.com/share/r/15HhNdBPvo/

Do you know where Europe's most powerful hot spring is? This is Deildartunguhver, found on the Silver Circle route in Iceland.
Deildartunguhver is a geothermal spring with the highest flow in Europe, an important source of hot water and heating for thousands of Icelanders. The water here has a temperature of 97°C, though the site can safely be accessed via wooden boardwalks to take a closer look.

After exploring this natural wonder, you can relax and unwind in the mineral-rich water at the neighbouring Krauma Geothermal Baths. A luxurious spa where a natural glacial feed moderates the temperature.

"When you reach Snæfellsnes itself, you will be greeted by gems of Icelandic nature, each more beautiful than the last." - Icelandia Product Manager.

There’s something magical about setting off on a day trip to Snæfellsnes Peninsula. It all begins in the early morning, wrapped in the quiet stillness of Iceland’s winter darkness. As the bus rolls onward, the guide shares fascinating stories of Iceland’s history, slowly bringing the land to life while the rest of us wake up.

Our first stop? Borgarnes, where the comforting warmth of the first coffee of the day kicks in. Just as we continue west, the sun starts to peek over the horizon, painting the sky in soft hues. And then—Snæfellsnes itself unfolds before us, a landscape so breathtaking it’s like stepping into a postcard. 🤩

From towering cliffs to dramatic coastlines, the peninsula is a treasure trove of Icelandic nature. The best part? Each stop is just a short drive apart, so there’s plenty to see without spending too long in transit.

As the adventure winds down, the bus ride home is the perfect time to relax—whether it’s by sneaking in a quick nap or scrolling through the day’s photos. Some even take the moment to leave a glowing review (because let’s be honest, this trip deserves all the stars!) 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Should I rent a 4x4 when visiting Iceland in winter? What is it like driving in Iceland in winter, is it safe? These are common questions travellers ask when planning their winter trip to Iceland.
Winter road trips in Iceland are truly something special, and if you choose to come at this time of year you’re in for a real treat.
Save our top tips and advice when preparing for winter road trips in Iceland.

🛣️Hire a 4×4
It’s not essential to have a 4×4, even in winter, to drive to places such as the Golden Circle and the South Coast. But when the weather turns snowy or icy, you’ll find the increased traction, and sense of security it’s well worth the extra cost.

🗺️Less is more
It can be tempting to pack a lot into an Iceland winter vacation, but you’ll find that less is more. Be mindful of the amount of daylight and factor in that driving times might be longer if the roads are icy.

❄️Stay aware of current conditions
Winter storms can blow in unexpectedly, so keep a close eye on the forecast and listen to local advice as you make your way around the Icelandic countryside.

📝 Be prepared to adjust your plans
If inclement weather impacts your proposed schedule, be prepared to alter what you had planned. Embrace the moment and seize the opportunity to explore your current surroundings a little more.

⛔ Appreciate that some places are off-limits
In winter, the Icelandic Highlands are inaccessible in regular vehicles. Even if you have rented a 4×4, the F-roads that lead into the interior are closed and impassable. If you want to venture to the highlands, book one of our Super Jeep tours, with an expert driver and unique experience.

⚠️Stay safe:
Stay updated with the weather.
Be slow and sensible on the roads.
Invest in a pair of crampons/microspikes to give you more traction on the ice when walking around.

Grábrók Crater is an ancient volcanic crater that offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore the island’s geological history. Formed over 3,000 years ago during a fissure eruption, the crater is part of the larger Grábrókarhraun lava field, a rugged expanse of moss-covered lava that stretches across the Borgarfjörður region. A short hike to the crater rim for panoramic views of the surrounding lava fields, distant mountains, and the rolling countryside.

You’ve heard of the Golden Circle, but here’s why you should head to west Iceland and explore the Silver Circle. This region has played a significant role in Iceland’s literary heritage, with its landscapes and landmarks woven into the sagas and folklore that have shaped the nation’s identity. Our top highlights:

📍Deildartunguhver Europe's most powerful hot spring
📍The Settlement Center, Borgarnes
📍Hraunfossar waterfalls & Barnafoss waterfalls
📍Reykholt -the birthplace of the Prose Edda, one of the most important sources of Norse mythology. Snorri Sturluson's influence on Icelandic literature cannot be overstated-without his work, much of what we know about the Norse gods, from Odin and Thor to Loki and Ragnarok, might have been lost to history.
📍Sturlureykir Horse Farm
📍Langjökull Glacier
📍Choose to relax and recharge at pools or enjoy short & easy hikes to Grábrók Crater and Glanni Falls.

2025 started strong for the travel industry and our teams!
We’re excited to share some highlights from our favourite January events and give a huge shout-out to our incredible team, both behind the scenes and on the ground.
For us, it’s not just work; it’s a chance to share our passion for Iceland and the incredible experiences we offer. We had great fun connecting and exchanging ideas with fellow travel enthusiasts.

🤩 Where Europe meets North America, Reykjavík transforms into a hub of global travel connections every two years as industry professionals from around the world gather for the Icelandair Mid-Atlantic tradeshow. This year marked its 30th anniversary, and it was a great success.

🤩 FITUR - the world’s leading travel and tourism trade show. CCO, Inga Dís Richter, showcased all the tour offerings and experiences by Icelandia. Together with Business Iceland, and Icelandair, we had an amazing time connecting with global travel professionals and sharing the wonders of Iceland.

🤩 Ferðamálastofa / Icelandic Tourist Board Tourism Week: Marketing Manager, Kristín Manúelsdóttir, participated in a panel discussion, sharing insights and thoughts about the future of tourism in Iceland, digital trends and what's in store for 2025. We also attended the Mannamót Natural Travel Expo in Reykjavík, where over 250 companies from across Iceland showcased Icelandic tourism at its best.

Events like these remind us why we love what we do - bringing the magic of our experiences to travellers globally. After all, life’s richest moments come from the adventures we take. We thank all those involved for putting together these events. Here's to bringing you unforgettable experiences in Iceland.
