We always try to be as transparent as we can and we also use real time weather data to determine if we should operate the tour each evening. We never operate a tour when we think we are not going to see the Northern Lights. The reason for that is that we both think it's unethical as well as we will....

We decided to do something different last night and Scheduled a 2 am departure.

It's been tough the last few days, very cloudy a lot of rain and we have had to cancel three days in a row.

Due to that and feeling the pressure of having the hopes and dreams of many prospective aurora viewers in our hands we decided to invite people to join a 2 am departure last night because we saw in the forecast that the clouds would clear up around 3 am.

That turned out to be quite popular as all of our travellers decided to take us up on our offer and off we went after a short nap.

We were rewarded with this at 3am. The only tour in Iceland that saw the lights last night.

The Aurora Winter starts yet again.

Last night we finally caught a break after really cloudy weather and low activity in the beginning of September and decided to give it a shot, we quickly confirmed that the Tour was happening and in the evening we drove off.

In the beginning it started to look like it would have been a wrong call, the locations that were forecasted to be clear were cloudy and we were getting a bit anxious, we decided to drive to our favourite spot and see if it wouldn't work out and lo and behold, the skies were clear and after an hour of waiting the Aurora did her dance.

It's a good beginning to the season and I'm looking forward to this winter, some scientists have made bold claims about this winter having the highest auroral activity in 22 years. We will just have to wait and see.

We were able to get some lights last night and this picture reminded me of the Eye of Horus, an ancient Egyptian symbol of health, protection and restoration.

The ancient Egyptians made amulets and other trinkets with this symbol to place on those that needed healing.

I think that basking in the lights is already healing to the soul. And the simple goal of staying out in the cold and dark night with no other mission than to witness the magic of the aurora is refreshing and a good way to ground yourself away from the everyday troubles of life.

So my conclusion is that seeing the northern lights is good for you so you should come to Iceland and heal your soul, and of course join a tour with us. 😊

I snuck a picture of one of the guests on our tour, he was a photographer that travelled well over 24 hours to reach Iceland.

We had a good show and it was awesome to catch the photographer living out a moment that he had thought of for a long time, immersed in his element.
