Traded the northern lights and snow for sunny skies and clear water beaches. 2025 has been off to a great start!

What we have loved about Curaçao so far are the clear water beaches, national parks, wildlife, and European culture mixed with Caribbean island life 🌴

Curaçao is owned by the Netherlands so the European influences are abundant! Tomorrow we start our PADI certification course so that we can explore the under water world 🐠🐡🤿

📌 SAVE THESE TIPS

Ive lived in Iceland for 5 years, I get asked a lot of it’s worth it to visit Iceland in January. While the answer is not quite black and white, a trip in the winter is SURE to be memorable and an adventure! This post contains affiliates.

I’ll answer any questions about traveling to Iceland in January in the comments

From the bottom of my heart, Thank you for sharing this year’s adventures with me! 2024 was one of the best years for me.

This is a highlight album of the adventurous life I have built with my partner. Life is what you make it! It’s easy this time of year to compare your life to others, but there’s simply no happiness in that. We had a fair share of lowlights too, including losing loved ones. It reminded us that life is worth living. Don’t wait to live and do the things you’ve dreamed of doing.

Excited for what 2025 has in store, I’m sure there are many plot twists ahead 🤍 thank you again for sharing in this journey with me. Here’s to more Iceland adventures, and discovering places around the world with people we love!

- 9 countries
- 1 engagement
- 3 full on flat tires
- 5 times around the Ring Road
- 32 Northern Light Sightings
- 6 Volcanic eruptions

My 10 Volcano in Iceland 🌋

They’ve all been on the Reykjanes Peninsula, the last 7, including this one have all been in the area, near the Blue Lagoon and Grindavík. All 7 have been closed to the public, but sometimes you can get a glimpse of the glow from the road between Keflavik and Reykjavik.

There’s no telling how long it will last. This one caught us by surprise. It wasn’t predicted to erupt until maybe December or January, but when we got the word at 11 PM, we went straight for it because witnessing a Volcano like this is truly a magical experience.

I certainly miss the days when we could be very close to the lava and feel the heat and power of Mother Nature. But I feel very lucky to have witness so many volcanos in my life time. Iceland is full of magic

Quick spin around the Ring Road. We only had 4 days to spin around the island but we still fit so much in, the driving was pretty exhausting, driving more than 5 hours everyday but the northern lights were WORTH IT. Last nights show was definitely one of the top nights I’ve ever seen 🤩

If you haven’t planned your Iceland trip, I’ve created an Iceland Map and Guide for you. It includes all the best places to visit, stay, eat and discounts for excursions in Iceland.

There is so much to see in Iceland so my advice to you would pick 3-4 things to do in a day and stay in accommodation along the way.

And if you’re #1 goal is to see the Northern Lights, the best advice I can give you is to have a loose plan. I booked all accommodation on this trip day by day according to the weather and didn’t plan anything until the day before we left. You’ll never be left bored in Iceland.

Are you planning a trip to Iceland this winter? The Northern Lights have been OFF THE CHARTS!!!

October Roll Call

So thankful for this October, there was so much beauty, I can hardly comphrend everything I saw. 10 days in row of the most insane Northern Lights showed up in Iceland, I will never get over those magical nights.

was an absolute dream trip! I never imagined it would be so beautiful. I loved the culture and people and nature! I can’t wait to return for the next trip!

And of course Iceland is always so wonderful, October marks the beginning of Ice Cave season, and it was exciting to see how Katla Ice Cave has changed through the years! If you want to visit this cave, use code KYANASUE with tours

Global warming? ☀️🌎🌡️

Glaciers are melting faster now than ever before due to rising temperatures on our planets. It’s sad to see these incredible ice caves and glaciers melt away, but it’s also fascinating to watch earth change and new features be formed on the ice.

Each and every visit to and ice cave is vastly different as you can see how much it changes day to day. I find that it makes these experiences even more special because you’ll never get the same visit.

No need to worry, there IS a new tunnel that has already formed, in fact there are a few. Maybe that will be the new giant arch, the wind and water carve out these tunnels and give us these amazing shapes and structures. The Katla Ice Cave is always changes, and it’s fascinating to visit.

To add this to your Iceland itinerary, book a tour with and use code KYANASUE for a discount on your tour 🧊

A couple weeks ago we found a disposable camera facedown in puddle with no one around. It had almost all the photos left so we picked it up and decided to document our travels. We just got the camera developed and this is what we ended up with 😊 📸

I love them so much, I already bought another one! I just love finally seeing them developed and putting them into an album. These memories are so nostalgic and it’s fun to relive the travels!

Hope you enjoy 🥰

Camera roll from this weekend. It was an absolutely beautiful weekend here on the south coast of Iceland. It feels like we’ve gotten more sun in the past week than we got all summer 😅

The northern lights have been off the charts and truly keep getting better and better 💚 safe to say we aren’t getting much sleep here in Iceland

We spent the weekend working on 4 projects so now it’s time to get some rest before we leave for our next trip.

I feel lucky to be living my dream in Iceland and working with the love of my life. Iceland is a special place to us, but we can’t help but feel a new chapter is about to begin. We are so thankful for this community and love sharing in all the magic that Iceland brings 🫶🏽

Officially found the best spot to catch the Aurora 🥹

Last night was one of the craziest experiences of the northern lights I’ve ever had. And I LOVE that they were seen all around the world. I could hardly believe what my eyes were seeing, when the red first started to arrive, my first thought was “there’s a volcano erupting over there” 😂

I can’t wait for another night of crazy lights. This weekend is shaping up to be amazing. Cold. But amazing.

I caught these pink and red northern lights at less than 30 minutes from Reykjavik. Loved being able to warm up by the fire and also go inside for a hot cup of tea or cocoa 😊

You can book your spot here while you’re in Iceland with code KYANASUE10 for 10% off.

You’ll find me here the rest of the winter 😍

Moving was logistically and emotionally the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my entire life.

Not pictured:
🥪 eating ramen and pb&j for two years
🚶‍♂️Walking and taking the bus because I didn’t have a car for 3 years
🙁 Being lonely for 2 years because it’s hard to make friends as a foreigner in Iceland
🧡 My support system in Iceland when things got rough and home felt far away. My friends in Iceland are my heros.
🌭 working at a hot dog stand just to make a few bucks
🛌 sleeping on many a couch in random people’s houses or in my rental car bc I couldn’t afford accommodation while traveling
📝 the two other visas I was denied
👩🏽‍💻 the hundreds of job applicantions I got denied bc I was a US citizen
🤬 the extreme hate comments I received when my visa story went to the media. The news always tells a one sided story for the views.
😁 YOU! My supporters from day 1. Without your trust, commitment, and kindness I would not be here in Iceland today. This community is everything to me and I’m so thankful to have a group of like minded travelers who also freakishly obsess over Iceland.

I hope you enjoyed this story, and if you take away just one thing, I hope it would be to go after your dreams. Do something that scares you and never ever give up on yourself. It all works out in the end ❤️ þetta reddast.

Takk fyrir mig
