Did you know that the stunning blue color of Icelandic glaciers is a result of the way ice reflects light? 💙

Glacial ice is created over thousands of years by snowfall, which compacts and crystallizes into dense ice. As the ice becomes more compact, it absorbs more red light and reflects blue light, giving it that distinctive blue hue. This blue color is most prominent during the winter months when the ice is denser and more compressed.

As we are having plenty of snow in Iceland these days we are thankful for the way the Icelandic horses cope with the cold.

Icelandic horses have a thick double coat designed to protect them from harsh conditions and the biting wind of their native country.

Their hair work as an insulating layer of air next to their bodies. In fact, it’s much easier for horses to stay warm than it is for them to cool down. The longer the hair, the greater the layer of insulation created.
