End of our hike this cute three-legged arctic fox welcomed us in his home-þórsmörk, which is knows for having quite big population. In the winter, their fur is white to blend in with the snow, and in the summer, it changes to brown or gray to match the tundra's colors. Arctic foxes are perfect examples of adaptation to one of the harshest environments on Earth, which makes them one of few native species in Iceland.

Seals, can often be spotted relaxing on the icebergs or swimming gracefully through the chilly waters, witnessing these creatures in their natural habitat against the stunning backdrop of icebergs and mountains is adorable. If you're lucky, you might catch them playing around the lagoon's edges. Just remember to admire them from a respectful distance to avoid disturbing their natural behavior. In the waters of Jökulsárlón, seals are protected from the predators—such as orca or killer whales—that they would otherwise encounter in the open sea.

Glacial crevasses are often formed as a result of the glacier's flow over uneven terrain, creating stress and tension within the ice. These fractures can vary in size, ranging from small openings to large, formidable chasms. Exploring or navigating around these icy crevasses requires caution, as they can pose significant challenges and risks, and their depths can be deceiving.

The power of nature is truly unstoppable by human efforts. As evidence of its relentless force, the town of Grindavík has already been evacuated some time ago, as local authorities recognized the impending danger. Ensuring the safety of its residents, local authorities confirmed that not a single person was left behind within the city. However, at approximately noon, a fissure cracked open, releasing molten lava that began its relentless journey towards the abandoned town. Tunnel that lay beneath the town threatened to exacerbate the lava flow within the city limits.

Gróttuviti (Grotta Lighthouse) located on Seltjarnarnes peninsula with Great cormorant resting. The limited daylight during winter has its own unique charm. The soft, diffused light creates stunning and ethereal landscapes, transforming the city and its surroundings into a winter wonderland. The low position of the sun on the horizon gives a golden, mystical quality to the winter light. Reykjavík, being so close to the Arctic Circle has reduced hours of daylight, however it gives opportunity to see active wildlife.

Nauthúsafoss is a beautiful and hidden waterfall in the south of Iceland. Nauthúsagil means the canyon of the cattle houses. Probably derives its name from an original building of a bull shed from the nearest farm called Stóru-Mörk. Although the waterfall is located in the deep and narrow ravine, you can walk along the river while keeping your feet relatively dry. View in the end of path is gorgeous.

Exploration of the Langjökull (second-biggest glacier in Iceland) accomplished. Last weekend we head towards the Long Glacier to find various ice formations. With sunny and chilly weather, we could approach and explore a bit, even though the glacier already is buried with fresh snow covering some of the crevasses, and it was necessary to rope up and stay careful. We found beautiful cracks and moulins where we were able to enjoy the landscape.

Where black beach meets Atlantic Ocean.
View from above on the Reynisfjara, beautiful but usually crashing waves are very high and dangerous. Spectacular black surface with small particles of lava that have been eroded over time with a different texture compared to the typical white sand, often feeling coarser and heavier due to the presence of volcanic minerals.

Picture of the Grænihryggur (right part of the picture), literal translation would be a „green ridge“ Stunning hike that leads from Landmannalaugar characterized by colorful mountains, geothermal valleys and volcanic activity. The color is due to the rhyolite making the ground appear green and cyan. Lava fields, rivers and lakes also make their mark on this Nature Reserve.

Often hidden and inaccessible but so beautiful! This ice cave encountered on Eyjafjallajökull. They are formed in when meltwater from the surface, enters cracks or crevasses in the ice. This water refreezes, gradually creating a network of tunnels and chambers inside the glacier. Over time, the ice cave can grow larger as more meltwater flows into it, and the movement of the glacier may also cause the cave to change in shape and size. Additionally, the unique lighting conditions inside the ice cave can create stunning displays of blue or turquoise ice. Can be dangerous to explore due to the risk of falling ice and unstable conditions.

The trail takes visitors through a diverse range of landscapes, including lava fields, gorges, waterfalls, and volcanic craters. Can be completed in a strenuous day hike or divided into two days, with an overnight stay at the Fimmvörðuhálsi hut. The scenery and geological wonders along this trail make it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts visiting Iceland.
