Gleðilegt sumar! 😊❤️☀️🐢

Today is the first day of summer and the beginning of a month called Harpa. It was the end of a long winter and to celebrate, children were given gifts. I remember receiving toys to play with outside, when I was a child. 😄

This is a turtle that has just come out of hibernation. They dig in wet ground and spend most of the winter there. This will come off the first time it dives into water.

This afternoon Slow Travel Iceland/ Allt er hægt - gönguferðir went on a slow and pleasant hike through the lava tunnel Búrfellsgjá and into the Búrfell crater with two very nice people living in Luxembourg, Thomas and Sara.
We had great luck with the weather, it was sunny and warm (for the season) for most of the hike, although some grey skies started to show towards the end. On the way we saw a sheep-pen and grotto shelters, several fissures, a GPS-spot, met some Icelandic teachers on a hike and an Icelandic sheep dog.
The autumn colours are starting to show, including the blueberry plant turning red ... we actually found some blueberries and black mountain crowberries to taste :)
Thank you, Thomas and Sara, for joining Slow Travel Iceland, this afternoon.
Feel free to tag yourselves in the photos, if you like, and you are very welcome to use the photos for your personal use.

La version francaise viendra bientot!

Wednesday afternoon and evening: Private tour with a small group of old and newer friends from Belgium and France, with various residencies. First stop was at Rauðhólar pseudo-craters, where we ran into the filming of a comedy sketch for an Icelandic TV station. Then a short visit to Lake Elliðavatn for the cold springs, very few birds on the lake and neither fishermen nor horses nearby, but possibly a nordic serial killer ... . After a drive on a washboard road we arrived at the start of the hike through Búrfellsgja lava tunnel, where a group of hikers were about to set off, almost all wearing red jackets. Of course we immediately dubbed them the "Red jackets hiking team" :) We started with a visit to Vatnsgjá water crevasse, then the sheep pen and checked out places for a romantic honeymoon followed by berry picking and GPS-spot spotting. Then we headed towards the crater, which after a few light rainshowers greeted us with an amazing rainbow. On the way back we were very happy not to have lost ourselves so that we wouldn't have to search for ourselves and call out the rescue teams, including the helicopters and submarines, to look for us in the volcano ... (long story;).

Thank you for a great day out in the wonderful volcanic nature of Iceland; Katja, Nico and Bruno :)
Photos on Facebook with kind permission of the participants :)
