That‘s a wrap on the 2024 RIB Season - and what a year we have had! We had some absolutely brilliant sighting success figures, with 96% of tours having good or excellent sightings!

Thanks to Research Coordinator Eline for these visuals, showing our sighting success by species each month. Humpback Whale sightings were excellent from July to October, with the Minke Whales & White-beaked Dolphins coming in strong earlier in the season.

We are already looking forward to 1st April 2025 when we return on the RIB Boats! 🤩

10:00 Tour, Friday 18th October - "Today we set sail into our bay once more. We sailed out with two boats, one with Anna and one with Alex. We both went to the same spot and both had a blast! We spotted multiple humpback whales, one of which came quite close and we got to have a proper look at the different flukes! One boat saw 3 humpbacks and the other was lucky enough to see 6! During the whole tour we also saw multiple minke whales! It can be tricky to count but it was likely between 3-5. It was an amazing trip and we were especially fortunate as the rest of the day had to be cancelled due to bad weather!"

"We headed straight to where we had seen Davy Jones II and friends earlier, and a bit closer this time, we found them again. They gave us a fluke or two, and we left them, as we could see other blows in the distance. We got there and we found 2 more individuals, so, 5 total humpback whales. These two were having a bit of an argument by the looks of it, rolling and slapping all the time. They gave quite the show. White beaked dolphins eventually joined the action, and it was amazing. Also, minke whales, plenty, maybe 7, and harbour porpoises, possibly 10. Amazing tour!" 😍

Yesterday was another AMAZING October Day at sea! We had excellent sightings on all of tours including this individual, a regular to the bay known as Davy Jones II, spy-hopping and logging around 5 metres from our boat on the 10:00 & 15:00 tours. Davy Jones is always so curious and it feels like we are not whale watching but that he is people watching! 😍

10:00 Tour, Saturday 5th October - "What an incredible tour, one of the best of the season! We set out full of hope as the weather was looking incredible, with not a single cloud in the sky, and the sun super bright. And a few moments after leaving port, we had the first sighting! A medium group of harbour porpoises, being very displayful and active. They were around 15 of them. Next, we moved on, and we found 6 humpback whales! One of them was Neila! In the area we could see as well several minke whales, around 5 of them, cruising around at speed. It was an incredible tour and the passengers were so happy."

15:00 Tour, 3rd October - "Incredible tour to end the day - we found a small pod of harbour porpoises that were very visible! They were swimming all over and surfing the waves, and everybody was ecstatic. We moved on after a while, and we saw 4 humpback whales. They were in pairs, about a mile apart. Both pairs spent much time at the surface, and they were interacting with a group of white beaked dolphins, possibly 10. There were also 2 minke whales cruising around. It was a great success!"

WOW! We had an absolutely fantastic day at sea yesterday with all four of our main species spotted across our tours - Humpback Whale, Minke Whale, White-beaked Dolphin & the Harbour Porpoise.

We were even lucky enough to have this pair of particularly acrobatic Humpback Whales on our tours at 10:00 & 16:00! This was much needed after the weather recently, and we're hopeful that we can go out on many tours over the next few days!

WOW, A VERRRRY Windy start to the month! We have only been able to go out a couple days in September so far, but when we have been out - there have been great sightings of all 4 species we see regularly in the bay - Humpback Whales, Minke Whales, White-beaked Dolphins & Harbour Porpoises!

We look forward to a few days now of good weather, with up to 6 departures every day! Excited to see what is out there 🧐😍

WOW, WOW, WOW! 🤯 We had an absolutely amazing day yesterday with a humpback whale peduncle throwing and tail slapping beside our boat. Our friends at Elding Whale Watching Reykjavik even managed to capture the same moments from their classic tour! Absolutely stunning!

This was an absolutely MAGICAL encounter on our 20:00 Whales in the Midnight Sun Tour on August 6th. As we sailed out into Faxaflói Bay on our RIB, from Reykjavík, Iceland, the sea was mirror flat and the sun low in the sky. We slowed the boat and two humpback whales came up to our RIB. They were lunge feeding with Arctic Terns also feeding above them - an incredible encounter with these majestic whales. This video was taken by our Captain Siggi.
