BIRDS OF NORTHEASTERN ICELAND

As every spring Philippe will guide a trip for bird watchers, photographers and nature lovers. This year we will go to the shores of the Northeastern peninsulas that bathe in the Arctic Ocean and the bright permanent light of the boreal summer. Philippe Patay This graceful little Dunlin (Calidris alpine) is called the Golden Plover Slave in Icelandic (Lóuþræll). Indeed, it has the habit of following the plover’s actions and movements on the moor with an astonishing and perfect synchronisation. Contact us to secure a spot on this wonderful journey!

Some wild (not so wild) Swans spend some time on Tjörnin Pond in Reykjavik before and after their migration to the British Isles. The Whooper Swan (Cygnus cygnus) nests on lakes and vast peatlands of Eurasia, Siberia, Russia, Finland and Iceland. It is the national bird of Finland. After being endangered, the species is now expanding. Zeus transforms into a swan to be sure to seduce Leda. From their union will be born Helen and Pollux. Haven’t you already seen these fascinating landscapes offered by the volcanic islands of the Pacific, from the Marquesas to the Aleutians, or those of the Atlantic from Tristan Dacunha to Iceland. Today, here in Iceland, (too) many tourists travel on the circular road, but few people venture into the vastness of the highlands or onto the more distant peninsulas.
Come to travel ang hike with us. We remained the purist in this damn business.

Lóa is the bird of hope in Iceland. The Golden Plover is one of the very first to arrive in Iceland in the last days of winter or, to put it another way, in the very first days of spring. He tells the farmers that they can continue to survive on this rough land. Its soft, nostalgic and melodious alarm whistles echo across the moors and meadows and accompany the hiker from dawn to dusk. (which means 24 hours from May to July).
