This long weekend is marked by numerous festivals, gatherings, and events throughout the country, with people flocking to various locales to enjoy music, camping, and communal festivities.

One of the most prominent celebrations during Verslunarmannahelgi is Þjóðhátíð in Vestmannaeyjar. This historic festival, rooted in local tradition since 1874, features a vibrant mix of music, bonfires, and dazzling fireworks. Held on the Westman Islands, Þjóðhátíð draws crowds from all over Iceland and beyond, creating a unique atmosphere of unity and cultural pride. Reynisfjara, Black Sand Beach 🖤

Reynisfjara ranks sixth among Europe's top beaches. Its black sand, formed by volcanic activity, and striking basalt columns have attracted filmmakers and fans of series like Game of Thrones and Vikings. National Geographic also recognized its beauty.

However, caution is advised due to sneaker waves, making it one of Iceland's most dangerous spots. The beach uses a light system to indicate restricted zones for visitors' safety.

The DC-3 Plane Wreck,

📍Sólheimasandur, south coast of Iceland

The US Navy's Douglas R4D-8 crashed in Iceland on November 21st, 1973. Despite uncertain causes, all seven crew members survived the icy landing.
Over time, harsh weather has deteriorated the wreckage, with parts missing. Its location on Sólheimasandur, prone to floods during glacial eruptions, means the wreck may not last forever.

Join our south coast tour and visit the wreck while it still remains!
