This unique natural phenomenom is commonly found in areas with glacial activity. The fine particles of sediment from glaciers and surrounding rocks create a distinct golden or yellowish coloration in the water, adding to the visual allure of these river-braids captured on our Hot Springs & Glaciers tour.

Explosion of colour!

Hvítserkur, also known as Röndólfur, is an ignimbrite mountain in the Eastfjords of Iceland. It is not to be confused with the popular sea stack bearing the same name on the Vatnsnes peninsula in the North.

Located near Borgarfjörður Eystri, the ridge presents a unique visage of colour, streaks cutting across its façade, and a smattering of basaltic layers. The mountain is said to be the result of a very high intensity volcanic explosion.

These images were taken during the Autumn season when the surrounding landscape also comes alive in colourful hues.
