Visited Krust at Hlemmur Food Hall. Burger (beef cooked medium rare), with fries and sauce. And white asparagus (in season in Germany at the moment), with cooked ham rather than raw ham which is more traditional I believe in Germany.

Iceland took 3rd place at the Food Olympics in Stuttgart Germany in 2020!

The Icelandic culinary team competed in two events and scored the gold in both, i.e. Chef’s Table and Hot Kitchen. Overall they took 3rd place on points. The even has been held in Germany every four years for the last 25 years. A total of 2000 chefs compete every year at this event.
The Icelandic team used mostly ingredients brought fresh directly from Iceland such as the lamb, char, scallops, haddock, skyr, salmon etc.
Norway took first place and Sweden second place.
Nordic cuisine seems to be very successful these days.
Reykjavik Food Tours wishes the team best of luck. We’re all very proud of your culinary success!

"We'd like to try some Icelandic food." We get this request all the time. What is Icelandic food? Icelandic food is perhaps not so different from what you're used to eating, i.e. fish, lamb, chicken and beef. We prepare it the way you would expect in western countries. However, less usual meats we eat would be whale and horse. We do have some traditional food too which includes but is not limited to singed sheep's head, sour ram's testicles and putrefied shark.

Those five restaurants in Reykjavik are mentioned in the Michelin guide.

In addition to awarding the first Michelin star to a Reykjavík restaurant the 2017 Michelin Guide mentions four other restaurants. One of these, Matur & Drykkur received a Bib Gourmand award, given to restaurants which offer "exceptionally good food at moderate prices." Read more: Dill in downtown ...

Reykjavik Kitchen is a new place in town since late 2018. Menu is pretty classic for Iceland, fish and lamb with some little twists. Overall experience was good.

Customer service observations...

As I often tell my audiences, I am blessed and cursed. I am cursed with the fact that I can’t have a Customer Experience without analyzing it and defining what they should do differently.

Mimir Restaurant at Radison Hotel Saga.

My partner and I visited Mimir restaurant a couple of weeks after it opened. Since I live in the area I'm always looking for dinner options nearby. Everything at Mimir is new and nice. The seats are comfortable. The kitchen is open so one can see the chefs at work right from the dining tables which is great. The cod and the lamb was nicely prepared and tasted great. The food price is about the same as you'll find in same class restaurants elsewhere in Iceland. The service was smooth, friendly and efficient. My partner and I agreed that we would have preferred our food to have been warmer when we received it and my personal suggestion to the management is to dim the lights somewhat for a more cozy athmosphere. Mimir restaurant is way above average compared to other restaurants I've tried in Reykjavik and in Iceland in general. Those staying at the Radison Saga Hotel do not need to look elsewhere, unless they go upstairs to the tried and tested and recommended Grillid restaurant on the top floor of the hotel. Grillid restaurant offers fantastic views of the city.

Horse meat from Iceland sold to Japan. Don't miss trying it while in Iceland.

Around 600 kilos of Icelandic horse meat are exported to Japan every week from Iceland. The meat, which has been popular in Iceland through the ages, is highly priced in Japan. Hopes are up to increase the export to 2.5 to 3 tonnes each week.

Reykjavik Food Tours - for sure!

Why have a starter and a main course before having dessert? Well, you may be used to enjoying food in this order but in Iceland we love our sweets. Ever heard of rye-bread ice cream? If it sounds too bold and crazy then try thinking of an ice cream with Oreo cookies.

We love showing our guest a good time on an informative walk around Reykjavik and stopping at our favourite places to taste some unusual and some unique Icelandic food.

Reykjavik Food Tours did its first tour in 2013 but its founder Stefan Valsson has been a professional tourist guide since 1988 and still loves his job!

Check us out for a private food walk around Reykjavik, bicycle tours, Segway tours or private tours in a vehicle.
