There are around 600 types of mosses in Iceland. Moss can survive in a very harsh environment but it is very fragile at the same time. We always encourage our guests to have this in mind and stick to the designed paths while exploring the area.

Last weekend many beautiful things happened in our cabins.. two of our guests got engaged - one more time congratulations on that!🤍 - other guests were pretty lucky as well as they could admire Northern lights while soaking in a hot tub. To all of you - thank you for sharing your time and stories with us!

Our cabins are located only 40min drive from the famous Blue Lagoon, and this is how our experience of it looked like.. It is a pretty relaxing option for upcoming weekend. Have a good one ✨

One of the main and the most relaxing winter activities Icelanders do is soaking in hot waters of outside swimming pools. That is thanks to having a geothermal waters used for heating the pools. Here you can find locations of all the swimming pools located in Reykjanes peninsula: bit.ly/348uTNR

The Northern Lights season is on. We are very lucky to be located far away from any light pollution and be able to admire this amazing show created by nature each time the conditions are right. Thank you for sharing with us your video. Hope you had a nice stay at our cabins.

The eruption 🌋started in March and the last lava flow occurred three month ago. In our opinion that was one of the best things that happened for the tourism industry in the Reykjanes area.

As a host I sometimes need time out from everyday life around the cabins. Alone in harmony with nature is my getaway. Luckaly Reykjanes Peninsula is full of nature wonders just around the corner.

In 2014, roughly 85% of primary energy use in Iceland came from indigenous renewable resources. Geothermal sources accounts for 66% of Iceland's primary energy use.

The Lighthouse at Holmsberg was built in 1956 and stands 9,3 m tall with a compartmenet for the light of 3,4 m tall. It has identical lighthouses in 6 other parts of Iceland, all designed by the engineer Axel Sveinsson. (Souce: )

Meet your host.
Katrin is a traveller by heart.
In 2008 she started to travel alone around the world and has been on the road with her backpack ever since then. She has brought her backpack to central America, China, Peru, south east Asia and India. Katrin studied Yoga during her stays in India and while in China she practised Martial Art. She has stayed among Kuna Indians in Panama and Shaman in the Amazon Jungle.
Her interest for people and culture has brought her to study anthropology and she is curious to understand more about religions, philosophy, cuisines and how people view life.
In 2019 Katrin decided to stay in Iceland for some time. She found the need to connect herself to the country where she was born and that same year she bought Sandgerði Cottages.
Now, Katrin welcomes the world to her sanctuary within the Reykjanes UNESCO Global Geopark
