Several years ago we met Jim, a journalist, writer and photographer who experienced with us and a couple from Australia the truffle hunting in the Romagna hills!
An unforgettable and "wild" experience with Lagotto truffle dogs.
We are so happy that Jim still remembers this day together and we hope to see him again!

Today, Bluone celebrates 25 years. At least, that’s what official papers say but Bluone is older than that!

Driving back to Bologna from our summer holidays in Calabria on August 1993, we were discussing and trying to imagine the future of tourism business and of our travel agency. We had the feeling we had to move to another direction, leaving the traditional work of a travel agency. Our feelings were backed up by an inspiring interview of Bill Clinton in the nineties. He prefigured the future world as a smaller place where free access to means of communication for all human beings would have been revolutionary.

These challenging times have given us the chance to look back to our past. Particularly, this important anniversary encouraged us in trying to discover more about us. Probably, our experiences were seeds sowed in the past and just waiting to grow: working in a winery, running a travel agency, the importance of traditional food in our families, reading books and newspapers and traveling.

When we started, internet was not yet ubiquitous to our lives and we were delivering by ordinary mail our brochures translated in six different languages for “La Settimana Della Cucina” promoting our tours: a lady with a hat shaped as a “tortellino”, dressed up with a slice of mortadella and showing a dish of tagliatelle and a glass of wine. We sent out thousands of brochures preparing each envelope, writing by hands the addressees.

Some years later, Italy started an “internet revolution” and web-sites, e-mail, instant information and direct reservations became real competitors for travel agencies and their life became very hard.

During these 25 years of experience, we can say we had guests from many countries all over the world and from each of the fifty American States. Many of you became friends during our tours, with many of you we became close friends, some of you remember us after many years.

Eventually, we look back at that summer and interview and we think it has been really a good idea!

Tomorrow, April 25 - Italy Liberation Day

During our experience as tour operator, some of our guests coming from abroad asked us to take them to war cemeteries where some of their relatives were buried while serving in the Allied army. We remember a visit to the South African and Polish war cemeteries. It was very emotional for us to find out so many people from so far away came here to help us.

April 25th is Liberation Day in Italy (“Festa della Liberazione”), where we celebrate one of the most important recurrences from the Second World War.

Bologna was freed from N***s and Fascists on April 21st, thanks to the Allied forces - in particular Polish and American soldiers - and the “resistenza partigiana”.

The so called “linea gotica” was the last front of the war behind which the occupiers were trying to resist. That front was passing exactly through our region Emilia Romagna - on the Appennini Emiliano - where some of the most cruel fights took place. This happened 75 years ago and we can still find traces of it in our city and our region.

Bologna has been always celebrating Liberation Day in Piazza Maggiore and Via del Pratello. In this year of quarantine, people will celebrate it by hanging their pictures on the porticoes columns.

A heartfelt thanks to all the friends who have written to us to find out about us and who have been close to us at the moment.
This reminded us of how many friends we have!

We and our family are doing well and we must be confident that things will improve soon.
As long as there is hope, the difficulties are overcome.

At this point we are worried about all of you, friends.
Stay home! The most important thing is health.

When everything is over, we will have time to meet, hug and celebrate with you.
