🇬🇧 (Italiano 👇🏻) It has been 6 years today since I opened the door of our holiday home-to-be Ca'dal Lusciàt (the Umbrella-maker's House) for the first time.
These years meant a lot to us.
We met a lot of nice people from all over the world who enjoyed our house, its history and (more recently) our extra services, like bio-boxes, homemade dinners and guided tours.
Now, 6 years later, (hopefully) at the end of a long pandemic, still in uncertain times, we are still here, welcoming lovely guests at Ca'dal Lusciàt, with a lot of projects for the upcoming season and with another holiday home-to-be under renovation next to our house. Thank you so much for these years, we hope to see you soon (maybe again) in Brovello 💙☂️

🇮🇹 Oggi sono esattamente 6 anni da quando ho aperto per la prima volta la porta della nostra futura casa vacanze Ca'dal Lusciàt (La Casa dell'Ombrellaio)
Questi anni hanno significato molto per noi
Abbiamo incontrato tante belle persone da tutto il mondo a cui è piaciuta la nostra casa, la sua storia e (più recentemente) i nostri servizi come le ceste biologiche, le cene fatte in casa e i tour guidati.
Ora, 6 anni dopo, alla fine (si spera) della pandemia, in tempi ancora incerti, siamo ancora qui, dando il benvenuto ai nostri ospiti a Ca'dal Lusciàt, con tanti progetti per la prossima stagione e con un'altra futura casa vacanze in ristrutturazione.
Grazie mille per questi anni e speriamo di (ri)vederci presto a Brovello 💙☂️

The Stresa’s “Grand Hotel des Iles Borromées & SPA” lies on the shores of Lake Maggiore, right in front of the Borromean Islands. The Grand Hotel combines sumptuous art nouveau style with the charm of the Italian luxury Grand Hotels
The construction of the Grand Hotel started in winter 1861, the same year of the proclamation of the Reign of Italy. It was inaugurated on Saturday 21sr March 1863✨
In those times, Stresa was not yet recognized as the “Pearl” of Lake Maggiore. However, in 1906 the opening of the “Simplon Tunnel” rail line was the final push for the increase in tourism and Stresa was identified as the most prestigious place on the Lake Maggiore 👑
With the arrival of the Orient Express, Stresa’s train station became a mandatory stop on the London-Paris-Milan-Venice-Istanbul line, bringing an elite tourism to the Grand Hotel
In September 1918 a 19-year-old Ernest Hemingway arrived in Stresa for the first time, recovering from a war wound. He checked into Grand Hotel’s room 106 (now the prestigious Hemingway Suite) and it is said that he headed straight for the bar to enjoy a Dry Martini, his favourite drink 🍸
Reminiscing about the beauty of the place, Hemingway set part of his novel “Farewell to arms” in the hotel and the name of the Grand Hotel des Iles Borromées became known worldwide 🌍
Throughout its history the Grand Hotel has seen within its walls many famous guests: Leopold II King of Belgium, the King of Sweden Oscar II, the American magnate Rockfeller and cultural figures such as Gabriele D'Annunzio. In the book of the signatures, you can find the autographs of Ernest Hemingway (who wrote “an old client”), Benito Mussolini or treasures like a flower designed by Renato Guttuso from 1985 🌺
Today, both the Grand Hotel’s Hemingway Bar and the Borromeo Restaurant are also open to non-resident guests who can literally dive into its charm, history and art at the same time as enjoying modern comforts. Worried about the prices? A glass of wine at the Hemingway Bar costs 8€ (as well as my Red Martini 🥃) and each course at the Borromeo Restaurant has an average price of 25€. Excellent value for money in a timeless location 💡

In such difficult times due to the pandemic and the great deal of problems affecting the tourism industry, we are blessed to have a place to take care of, to cure, to dedicate our time to 🙏🏻
Struggling the whole winter to turn my great-grandmother's abandoned property into a vegetable garden has been more of a "therapy" to us than an effort. And look at our garden today, so shining and fruitful! 💙
Probably what Gertrude Jekyll stated about gardening it's true: "The love of gardening is a seed once sown that never dies" 🌱

Italy is the world's most important country when it comes to wine production and export 🏆🍷
Let's be honest, who here has never dreamt of drinking a tasty glas of Italian wine, while enjoying the "Dolce Vita"? 💕
But, despite the cliches, for once let's talk about... Italian local brewers! 🍺
If you are a true beer lover and you happen to visit our charming region, then you should try the beers of Birrificio Ossolano! 👌🏻
This local brewer produces its beers in Malesco, on the outskirts of Val Grande National Park. The beer shop is located in Santa Maria Maggiore, a fairy village in the Vigezzo Valley, otherwise you can buy their beers at the Enoteca Acino Blu in Massino Visconti 🍻
They produce beer for every taste (my favorite one is the stout) and undoubtedly they do have a great taste for label and packaging design 📦 This would make the Birrificio Ossolano's products not only a treat for your palate, but also a special gift idea 🎁 for every true beer lover 🍺

This abandoned place lies on the top of San Salvatore, a mountain located about 10 minute drive from Ca'dal Lusciàt, in the township of Massino Visconti 🏞️
In the past, the Feast of the Virgin Mary's Holy Belt was celebrated here mid-August, with a Mass in an ancient church nearby, a Procession around the mountain and a several day festival with local food and music in this cosy Refuge 🎶🍝🍷
The Mass and the Procession still take place every year, but no longer the festival
I was just a little kid when the Refuge was shut down, but every time I am up here I can still hear the noise of people having fun and I can remember me and my family having a good time together (even with my relatives from Lake Garda, visiting us for this celebration)
Unfortunately, I can't remember more. Today the place is abandoned and many of the people attending are not within us anymore. Memory is all that remains of those funny days.
Anyway, we never know what tomorrow may bring. Not the past, of course, but maybe it will give new life to this beautiful place 🙏🏻

A couple of days before Christmas break's lockdown we visited one of my favorite places close to Ca'dal Lusciàt : Orta San Giulio 💙
This absolutely pretty village on the shores of Lake Orta is described by the French novelist Honore De Balzac as "a pearl in a green jewel case"
Aside from its lovely architecture, elegant squares and narrow lanes, Orta also serves as a gateway to the lovely island of San Giulio ⛵
We also took a walk along the lakeside, passing by the slightly crazy Villa Crespi, a Moorish-style villa commissioned by Cristoforo Benigno Crespi in 1879. Today the villa is a 5-star luxury hotel and a 2-star Michelin restaurant owned by one of the most famous Italian chefs, and his wife 🍴⭐⭐
Orta is one of the prettiest old lakeside towns you will find anywhere. So, don't you think it's already time to plan your trip to the Italian lake mass tourism hasn't yet discovered? 🔍
