The house is located along the Strada del Vino which winds it's way through vineyards, olive orchards and poppy fields passing some of the most famous Super Tuscan wineries in Italy, like Sassicaia or Ornellaia. Hello from paradise 🌈

Monday evening, our small village of Castagneto Carducci - Bolgheri was hit by a flash flooding. I had never seen anything like it: within minutes, the streets turned into rivers, and walls of water came crashing down with incredible force.

Arnaud left just a few hours before for a short bike trip, and Gaby, my Australian friend, and I found ourselves alone, facing a critical situation.

We did everything we could to keep the water away from the house, using whatever solutions we could find, but we soon realized it was impossible. I tried venturing outside, but the current was too strong.

Of course, I had to cancel my cooking class, as the roads were too dangerous.

I called the firefighters for help, but they told me they were handling more serious emergencies and the only thing we could do was move to higher floors for safety.
So, after placing blankets and sheets in front of the doors in the attempt to stop the water, we took the animals and some food upstairs, waiting for the worst to pass.

From above, we could see the disaster unfold: the garden had turned into a raging river. When everything finally calmed down, we went outside. The starry sky was beautiful, but all around us was devastation: the parking lot had been destroyed by the force of the water, and the vegetable garden was buried under a layer of mud.

We went to bed exhausted, relieved by the fact that the water had not entered the house in the end. Unfortunately, many others were not as lucky and suffered flooding and serious damage to their homes and properties.

Our thoughts are with them, and with all the friends, near and far, who called to check on us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support—You are so many and it means so much in times like these!

PS: Arnaud came back quickly and and I felt better.

With a few friends, we worked on fixing everything. And everything's back to normal. We still have to rebuild the road with all our neighbors.
