I hope you are as excited as we are for the next week! You don’t know why you should? Let me tell you:
From the 12th to the 15th September our annual festival will take place in Montepulciano.
We will welcome big names like Pieter Wispelwey violoncello, Paolo Giacometti pianoforte, Ariadne Daskalakis violino, Nobert Stertz tromba, Christoph Prégardien tenore, Christoph Schnackertz pianoforte to the Palazzo Ricci. Now you are listening? But wait that is not all.
There will be three different concerts in diverse locations throughout the city of Montepulciano.
On Friday 13th of September there will be a Schubertiade with Daskalakis, Wispelwey and Giacometti at the Palazzo Contucci at 6 p.m.
On Saturday 14th of September there will be a strings Martinée with music from composers like W.A. Mozart, J.S. Bach and L. v. Beethoven at the Chiesa del Gesù.
And last but not least the highlights of the chamber music week will be presented at the Salone di Palazzo Ricci at 6.00 p.m. on Saturday the 14th of September

I’m so glad I finally found the time to visit my friend and colleague Herma van den Ham at B&B Residenza Farnese in Farnese!

It was wonderful to see each other again, and the place is absolutely beautiful!

She’s only just started, but it’s clear she’s completely in her element. This work is tailor-made for her. It’s amazing to see how perfectly she fits in this environment and how passionately she’s embracing this new challenge.

Wild boar, fish, wild asparagus, wine, pasta, cheese, saffron....... you name it, there is a sagra for it in Italy: a village festival dedicated to local cuisine.

At such festivals, the whole village and often the region turns out - nowhere do young and old mix so easily as at this food tradition.

You can taste and buy local specialities at market stalls. There is music and long tables where everyone can join to eat and drink.
 
In the villages and towns around Agriturismo Poggio Antico there are also many of these festivals. One of the best attended is within walking distance of Agriturismo Poggio Antico: ‘la Festa del Brustico e Tegamaccio’ in Porto: ‘the festival of fish from the lake’

The whole village spends months making sure the feast is a success, from morning to night for eight days of eating, drinking and dancing: this is where life is celebrated. Italians come to this feast from far and wide, especially for traditional fish dishes such as ‘tegamaccio’, ‘brustico’ and ‘spaghetti con sugo di pesce’.

Of course, non-fish dishes are also available. Every sagra is a special and, above all, welcoming experience.

The festival takes place every year from 10 to 15 August, in Porto on Lake Chiusi, municipality of Castiglione del Lago, about 12 km from Lake Trasimeno.

This week’s masterclasses are filled with talented young musicians, who will be guided by three experts in their respective fields: Matthias Wierig, who was appointed as one of the youngest, professor at the Saar University of Music in Saarbrücken; Brigitte Lindner, whose voice appeared on many stages at home and abroad as well as on numerous CDs; and last but not least Skerdjano Keraj, who is holding a full professorship for violin since 2015 at the HfMT in Cologne.
While Matthias Wierig and Brigitte Lindner will focus on the entire repertoire of song, concert, opera and operetta in the subjects of singing and piano accompaniment, Skerdjano Keraj will concentrate with his students on concert, competition and audition preparation as well as the repertoire from the baroque, classical and romantic periods.

The Picnicco at is one of the fantastic events in our area.

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Lake of Chiusi, this evening gathering at the Madrevite winegrower’s estate draws guests of all ages.

Each year, attendees come back brimming with enthusiasm, eager to share their delightful experiences.

The combination of exquisite local wines, delicious food, the picturesque landscape and the breathtaking sunset. creates a truly magical atmosphere.

It’s no wonder that beautiful photos are always taken at this event. The natural beauty of the surroundings, coupled with the joyful ambiance, makes every snapshot a treasured memory.

And when the evening progresses, it transforms into a lively party. It’s great to have a diverse experience that caters to different preferences.

Erede del leggendario Ali Farka Touré, padre del Desert Blues, con il quale ha suonato per quasi 10 anni, Samba Touré è chitarrista, cantante e compositore proveniente dall’area di Timbuktu, in Mali. Con 6 album da solista all’attivo, si caratterizza per uno stile rilassante e ipnotico, in cui il sound della chitarra disegna riff circolari che sembrano senza tempo, un elogio dei ritmi naturali della vita. Un suo brano, “Albala”, è stato parte della colonna sonora di “Io capitano” di Matteo Garrone.

🎭 "Il Grande Gioco" è il titolo della nuova edizione del festival che porta a Chiusi lo spettacolo del teatro e delle arti performative. Anche per il 2024, l'intento è quello di diffondere l’arte in ogni angolo della cittadina della Valdichiana Senese: Piazza Duomo torna ad essere la location principale dell'evento, ma non mancheranno performance sul Lago di Chiusi, nel Chiostro di San Francesco e al Parco dei Forti.

On Sunday evening, July 2, we celebrated the three-year anniversary of one of our favorite restaurants, Locanda di Poggio Falcone a Porto 💚

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 🥳
With the view of Lake Chiusi, we toasted to this milestone and to our fantastic collaboration together. 💚

🥂 we enjoyed the buffet meal, it were delicious dishes from a wide range of local products km0. 🍽️

And all this with the live music of that made us dance! 💃🕺

Zoals bekend bij onze ‘volgers’ verbleef Rianne Jansen van de Facebook pagina’s Italië liefhebbers en Accommodaties van Italië liefhebbers bij bij ons op Poggio Antico 💚

Op dag 21 van haar vakantie in Italië namen we haar en haar man Pieter voor een picknick mee naar Cugusi, dichtbij Montepulciano. Het was een heerlijk en bijzonder bezoek. Rianne schreef er het volgende over:

🇮🇹 Dag 21 in het mooie Italië … picknick bij Caseificio Cugusi Silvana & C. 😍🇮🇹

Vandaag gaan we op pad naar de schapenboer Cugusi om daar te picknicken … vanuit Agriturismo Poggio Antico rijden we door het mooie Toscaanse landschap en we zien al snel Montepulciano op een heuvel in de verte liggen. Hoe dichter we bij komen hoe mooier dit plaatsje wordt en dan voornamelijk het oude centrum natuurlijk… maar daar komen we vandaag niet voor dus we vervolgen onze weg richting Pienza en zien dan het bordje staan van Caseificio Cugusi Silvana & C. 🐑 🧀
Als we de weg inslaan zien we van een afstandje Montepulciano en Pienza liggen maar ook Tempio di San Biagio en het mooie heuvelachtige achterland met de verschillende kleuren groen en beige 😍

Op het terrein zelf is het even een zoekplaatje waar de winkel is maar uiteindelijk vinden we het… We hebben een picknick gereserveerd dus dat melden we en de vriendelijke jongen haalt voor ons een rieten mand met rood wit kleedje 🇮🇹 en er liggen placemats, een houten plank, brood en een scherp mes in. De rest kunnen we zelf samenstellen met allerlei lekkernijen uit de winkel 😋 het is moeilijk kiezen maar het wordt pecorino al tartufo, pecorino al peperoncino en een jonge pecorino kaas. Verder nog wat prosciutto en 2 worstjes van de streek … dan valt ons oog op de jammetjes en de honing dus die moeten er ook nog een paar mee en een potje semapata di frutta ( een soort jam maar dan met grotere stukken fruit en een klein beetje mosterd … erg lekker) Tuurlijk nog een flesje wijn en dan is ons mandje compleet.

Op het terrein zijn diverse plekjes waar je kunt gaan zitten en wij kiezen er één onder een afdak met ook hier weer een schitterend uitzicht 😍 wat een mooie plek en wat slim dat ze dit zo aangepakt hebben want nu kun je eerst proeven wat ze verkopen en daarna een groter stuk mee naar huis nemen.
Voor ons was het in ieder geval erg geslaagd en we komen zeker nog een keer terug.

Zoals reeds bekend bij onze volgers verbleef Rianne Jansen van de Facebook pagina’s Italië liefhebbers en Accommodaties van Italië liefhebbers bij ons.
Op dag 20 verkende ze de omgeving van Lago di Chiusi en schreef als volgt:

🇮🇹 Dag 20 in het mooie Italië … rondje Lago di Chiusi 🇮🇹

Vandaag gaan we vanuit Agriturismo Poggio Antico een rondje Lago di Chiusi rijden. Dit kleine meer ligt vlak bij het Lago di Trasimeno maar is veel rustiger en heeft een hele mooie omgeving 😍
Via de strada bianca rijden we eerst richting Vaiano en passeren we de velden vol zonnebloemen die nu ineens allemaal in bloei staan en de velden waar de grote rollen met gedroogd hooi liggen te wachten om opgehaald te worden… de gele bloemen en beige rollen tarwe steken mooi af tegen de blauwe lucht en de groene akkers met daar tussen af en toe een huis.

In Vaiano komen we op de geasfalteerde weg en rijden we naar Caffè Europa, een klein bakkertje (panificio) van Investpan waar je gewoon brood kunt kopen (zelfs brood met zout) maar waar ook 4 stoeltjes en 2 tafeltjes buiten staan zodat je er een lekkere latte macchiato kunt drinken en een brioche 🥐 kunt nemen. Ik geniet altijd van deze momentjes want iedereen stopt gewoon langs de weg (terwijl ik de auto netjes … lees onmogelijk… in een veel te stijleparkeervak heb gereden 😁) en begroet je voor ze de winkel in gaan.

Vanuit de bakker rijden we langs de wijngaarden van Madrevite om daarna rechts af te slaan richting Chiusi 😍 wat een mooi uitzicht heb je vanaf hier op het Lago di Ciusi, de glooiende heuvels met de vele kleuren en dan het meer er tussenin.

Op een gegeven moment lijkt het of je het meer al voorbij bent maar dan neem je de afslag naar rechts en rijd je langs een grote kweker met zoveel mooie bomen… Tot je bij restaurant Pesce D'Oro aankomt.
Parkeren konden wij vandaag voor de deur dus ideaal maar ik kan me voorstellen dat het in de weekenden hier heel druk is met gezinnen want je zit hier heerlijk onder de bomen en er is ook nog een speeltuin voor de kinderen bij.

De aanlegsteigers vormen een ronding in het water en als je daar overheen loopt zie je de vissen omhoog springen, de witte reiger geduldig op een steen zitten wachten en de 2 ganzen zijn het enige geluid wat je hoort hier. De bootjes die er liggen worden naar mijn mening niet meer gebruikt maar toch zien wij vanuit Poggio Antico nog wel eens een bootje het water op gaan. Ook mooi om te zien dat je vanuit dit restaurant aan de overkant de accommodatie ziet liggen van Anna Peeters 😍

Om 12.30 gaat het restaurant open wat gespecialiseerd is in vis uit het meer en ze hebben een heel uitgebreide wijnkaart. Wij gaan voor wat kleinere hapjes (bijgerechten) en die waren ook erg lekker 😋 dat dit restaurant een goede naam heeft is wel te merken want er komen zoveel Italianen hier eten tussen de middag.

Vanuit Pesce d’Oro rijden we weer terug naar Porto waar Poggio Antico ligt alleen nemen wij de strada bianca … wel goed te doen alleen wat hobbelig maar met weer mooie uitzichten. Natuurlijk kun je ook Chiusi aanhouden dan pak je ook meteen dit plaatsje mee.

Ik vond dit rondje om het meer zeker een aanrader door de heuvels en met uitzicht op het Lago di Chiusi 😍
