The stretch of sunny days we experienced in the second half of December seems to have finally and sadly come to an end. Cloudy, perhaps rainy mornings are what await us in Tuscany for at least a week. Nevertheless, we can still find all the peace we are looking for when we go out on a gravel road. Just a visual appreciation for our Tuscan landscape right now heading into 2025. We just have experienced such an incredible end of December with many days of sun and in some occasion also mild temps. A great opportunity to spend some times on the trails finding all the needed peace that they always bring along. Winter gravel riding as Tuscan as it gets!
In the first photo, a very typical cypress, a tree that today we can consider an autochthonous variety, and a concrete tank. Before stainless steel was introduced into winemaking in the 80's, concrete was a common method for aging or fermenting wine.
Even today, many European producers still use cement because it is neutral in taste, which means that the wine is not affected in its aromatic profile, these tanks allow the natural character of the fruit and the terroir to emerge clearly.

Cycling in Tuscany in autumn can often be described as a magical experience. With the arrival of daylight saving time, we are gifted with more daylight in the mornings. Something to really cherish, as mornings are usually quieter on the roads than afternoons.

As the sun rises over the hills, the tranquility of the Tuscan countryside unfolds before us. With each pedal stroke, we can literally immerse ourselves in the serene beauty of nature, where the fresh air invigorates the senses.

The idyllic Tuscan countryside, often covered in morning mist, invites us to savor the simple pleasures of life, such as cycling. Each ride becomes a kind of celebration of peace and a deeper connection with our breathtaking surroundings.

Through socials we often promote our off-road tours around the region, mainly because through those ones we can express all our expertise and knowledge of this land.

Sometimes, instead of complaining about the weather, we should stop and appreciate the breathtaking beauty that surrounds us. Here in Tuscany, no matter which way we turn, we are always surrounded by amazing scenery.
Exploring the region by bike is definitely the most sensible option, the most rewarding one at sensorial but also visual level.🍂🌾🍃🍁

You might not think that bikes and mushrooms have a connection, but they truly have one, at least for me. This first part of autumn here in Tuscany has been great for foraging mushrooms. Mild temperatures, some rainy days mixed with great sunny ones, the perfect scenarios for the growth of our "Funghi".

Working as a guide in this region often allows me to know a great variety of places, get to hidden spots in the middle of the forest but also have an intimate connection with the territory.
The beauty of Tuscany is also this one, an incredible mix of different landscapes all close together. Forests often meet vineyards or olive groves. The anthropized part of our land, the cultivated one, can share the border with the untouched one. Forest of Oaks, Chestnuts but also Beech are my favorite places when I want to feel immersed into nature, also the best when I am in search of edible mushrooms.

Taking my gravel bike for a scouting ride means spending hours exploring new roads, discovering new pieces of countryside for the first time, seeing new trails, and checking the condition of old ones, all while experiencing emotions in places that I will eventually offer to my clients during my bike tours.

There are days when, as soon as I reach the forest, I simply lean my bike against a tree and immerse myself in it. I can search for mushrooms and perhaps return later not dressed as a cyclist, but I can also listen to the sound of the wind or look up and watch the trees swaying. There, I find a peace that is difficult to find elsewhere, especially in cities where external stimuli overwhelm our brains.

This post aims to highlight how important my bike is to me, satisfying my constant hunger for curiosity while also reminding me of how generous nature can be.

Nothing beats a sunset gravel ride in Tuscany. At this time of year the trails are very quiet, not so many cyclists around considering it starts getting dark pretty quickly around 7pm. The vegetation seems to be responding to the few showers we have had recently. Still, the unspoilt countryside and our winding dusty roads stand out, making this region a real hotspot for cycling, this time for the off-road but also on tarmac.
