ce the magnificent Eternal City of Rome. You'll have plenty of free time to explore on your own. Discover a variety of sights, sounds, and history. This makes for an exciting day that you'll always remember. You can start this fun-filled day by meeting with your friendly staff at the Transportation hub near the harbors. Hop onboard comfortable transportation with large viewing windows and enjoy a scenic 1.5-hour drive to Vatican City. During the ride, your tour leader would provide information about history, culture and sites of interest. This excursion is designed to give guests the most freedom to explore. The transportation will take you to central points, the leader will provide you a map then off you go! Your transportation would park close to St. Peter's Square and you'll have 1.5 hours to explore on your own the beauty of this amazing place. The square has designed and built by Bernini approximately 1656-1667 and was designed to welcome all. Here you can visit the famous St. Peter's Basilica or take some beautiful pictures of the Egyptian obelisk or walk to Castel Saint'Angelo which is the mausoleum of Roman Emperor Hadrian. Make sure to return to your meeting point on time to take the bus and continue with your route. Once back onboard, your transportation would drive through Venice Square, which is dominated by the Altar of the Fatherland, a monument honored to Victor Emmanuel II. The square takes its name from Palazzo Venezia, once a residential papal palace from where Venetian Pope Paul II watched the jockey-less "Barberi". You will also have a glimpse of the Roman Forum while going to the Colosseum. You will have between 20-25 minutes to explore the Colosseum from outside and take some amazing pictures of it. You will realize why this monument is considered a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. Your day won't be over yet. You would board your transportation once more to reach the baroque center of Rome. The bus will drop you off close to the Trevi Fountain. At this point you can continue exploring the area or take a break and have some authentic Italian lunch. Before your leave, don't forget to throw a coin in the fountain to assure your future return to Rome! You can continue to the final meeting point afterwards. If you are less adventurous, you can just follow the excursion leader to the Pantheon to finally reach the famous Navona Square. The baroque architecture of the square would captivate you. You would see the Fountain of the Four Rivers located at the center of the square, the church of St. Agnes and magnificent palaces such as the Braschi Palace or Lancellotti Palace. Your excursion leader would take you back to your transportation for the back to your Civitavecchia cruise port.
