It was May 1st last year when we started to work on our new vegetable, herb and fruit garden. The idea is to experiment with permaculture and the biodynamic method of growing things so we can learn through experience the best and more efficient way to grow our own food and the best varieties for our area.

Winter has been cold and wet and Spring is super shy to bloom in Cortona, but we have already lots of camomille around 🥰 it’s a good sign. Let’s be positive 🌞
We will soon be planting our plants we have grown from seeds soooo stay tuned to see how the Molino comes to live 🌼🍅🥕🥬🍓🍇

Our Story

“A mill is a very special place. Flour comes from a mill and there is something wonderfully fundamental about flour. This is a story of a mill where the promise for the future was not in the conversion of wheat to flour but in the transformation of a decrepit structure into a fabulous family home full of enterprise and promise, laughter and love. Il Molino di Bordone is its name – the Bordone Mill near Cortona, Tuscany, Italy. It is home to Pino and Caroline Nobile and their three children”.

When we stood in the Cortona’s driveway we knew it was right for us.

At the time it was still a ruin and had been empty for over 30 years! But we were drawn by the peacefulness of the place. There were no roads nearby making it safe for the children to play freely. We love the 360 degree views of wooded hills, vineyards, olive groves, lake and stream running through. At the house there is the lovely big swimming pool with loungers and grassy areas for sunbathing and reading. For families with children there are soccer & volley ball nets, a croquet lawn, swings and climbing frame, bikes of various sizes and a trampoline, used not just for jumping but also star gazing at night – we have no light pollution. We are walking distance (1km) from 2 coffee bars, food market, 2 restaurants, pizzeria, beauty salon, hairdressers, hardware store, clothing shop. We are only minutes from the historic town of Cortona and yet immersed in tranquility. You can walk, run or bike for miles and not need to touch the asphalt.
