Today, APRIL 6TH, we celebrate the CARBONARA DAY, a pasta dish you should definitely taste during your next trip to ROME (yes, you could try to prepare it at home too but remember you need the right ingredients and then.. IT'S MUCH BETTER TO GO TO ROME THAN TO STAY IN THE KITCHEN!!! 😊)

HAPPY CARBONARA DAY!

It's simply …delicious! 😋Come to Italy and go and taste it on the farms that produce it! We will be happy to organize an unforgettable visit to a dairy farm with tasting for you so you will also be able to look in the face the one who supplies the milk for your favorite cheese 😁😁😁

Bergamo is a town that foreign tourists usually notice for the first time when they land at "Milano-Bergamo" airport and they discover that it takes an hour by bus to get to Milan...... 😎
But it would be a mistake to take the shuttle directly, Milan can wait!
Instead, move to the centre of Bergamo and take the cable car to the Upper Town, you will be pleasantly surprised! The small medieval centre is beautiful, and it is also full of good restaurants.
Take a walk, admire the view, and try to count how many times the bell of the Civic Tower will ring! (..and then let me know! 😉😀)

It might seem like any Monday and on TV there's only talk about omicron .. but today in Italy there is a special day: January 17th is the World Day of Neapolitan Pizza 🍕, which became part of the UNESCO intangible heritage of humanity in 2017. But why on January 17th? The date was chosen because it coincides with the feast of Sant'Antonio Abate, protector of bakers and pizza makers.
So, is it clear what you have to eat for dinner tonight?! 😉

Are you thinking of a trip to Italy?
Remember, from January 10, the decree that allows entry into public places (therefore also hotels, restaurants and museums), entertainment venues and the use of means of transport only to those who are fully vaccinated or who are proven to have recovered from Covid-19 comes into force.

Skiing in Italy? Better if you drink your bombardino at the end of the day! 🥃
From January 1 the Highway Code also regulates the behavior of skiers!
The law currently establishes the limit of 0.5 g/l of alcohol in the blood, a limit beyond which one is defined as being drunk and therefore subject to sanctions.
Blood alcohol content above 0.5 g/l limit is punished with high penalties and severe fines.
If the rate is over 0.8 g/l it becomes a crime.

Unlike several European countries, Italy has fortunately been able to keep Christmas markets open this year. The photos you see were taken in Ferrara, where our agency is based.
There are no mountains as a backdrop, but you can admire the beautiful Cathedral consecrated in 1135 and, just a few steps away, the famous Estense Castle with its water moat.
The only thing missing is snow!

When people talk about Italy, they often talk about the famous Mediterranean diet, rich in vegetables, fish and other low-fat foods. But, strangely enough, there's a city in Italy that is also known as Grassa = fat :) ..it is Bologna. In the historical centre, many beautiful 'botteghe' selling local specialities have been preserved and especially at Christmas time, their shop windows are more inviting than usual.
Some Bologna's local specialities are world famous, such as mortadella, tortellini... and raise your hand if you have never tasted the Bolognese ragù!
Then, some other specialities are less famous but particularly mouth-watering, like the Atti's 'panettone trionfale' - not your average Christmas cake, is it? :)

Built on an over 70 mt high rock*, the Sanctuary of San Romedio is a well-known pilgrimage destination in Italy. It's a fascinating, almost fairytale-like place, and the path leading there, much of it carved into the rock (last week's post: * yes, the path is flat but you have to sweat a bit, at the end :) ) makes it even more interesting. The sanctuary is guarded by Franciscan friars, but the bear kept in captivity under the walls of the sanctuary is looked after by Fausto, the local forest ranger ;)

And since we're talking about tourist trails, do you know this one?
It's a 2.7km-long rock-cut trail, relatively flat and very scenic. Better to use a helmet, some sections are quite low ;)
And where does it lead?

We will find out together in the next post :)

Last week we talked about a trail dedicated to dr. Sigmund Freud, an occasion for a nice walk in the province of Bolzano / Bozen. The path is not demanding but 11km back and forth for somebody could be too much. So you know how we do it? On the way back.. we take a panoramic train! ;)

You will find one of the easiest, but at the same time pleasant and panoramic trails when you get off the Bolzano/Bozen - Renon/Ritten cable car (see one of the latest posts). It is dedicated to the famous psychoanalyst dr. Sigmund Freud, who spent his holidays on the Renon/Ritten plateau in 1911 right. The path runs partially between the houses and then in the wood, and it's suitable for everyone, from the youngest to the oldest walkers. One-way length is about 5.5km (and in one of the next posts we will explain how to go back without having to do other 5.5 km on the way back :) ).

SOUND ON PLEASE! :)

Doesn't it sound like a fairy tale? And just think, it's an easily accessible place from the A22 motorway. And from the parking lot it's a pleasant walk, true, first downhill :) and then .. uphill :( but for those who don't feel like it there is even a shuttle!

Beautiful sunsets like this can be admired from the lookout above the famous Scala dei Turchi near Agrigento (Sicily). The white marl limestone formation is currently closed to the public due to the danger of collapses but even from a distance it does not lose its charm.

The city of Prato has, like many other Italian cities, a beautiful cathedral. Its current structure dates back to the 12th century but its very particular external pulpit, decorated by Donatello, was added in the 15th century.
The pulpit was created for the public exposition of the Holy Girdle, an important relic said to belong to Virgin Mary, which still today is shown to the faithful for Christmas, Easter, 1 May, 15 August and, in a more solemn form, 8 September (celebration of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary).
Don't miss it!

The island of San Giulio can be visited by everyone, also by the laziest tourists 🙂
It is located 400m from the shore, in the middle of Lake Orta (Piedmont, Italy) and it can be reached in 5 minutes by ferry from Orta San Giulio.
It is 140m wide and 275m long so after a tasty lunch at the (only 🙂) local restaurant with a breathtaking lake view all that remains is to dive into the fresh waters of the lake!
