The Befana Train 🚂
On January 6, the "Befana Train" returns. A convoy exclusively made up of historic cars pulled by a fully functional steam locomotive.
The route remains the tried and tested: Florence – Pontassieve – San Piero a Sieve - - Vaglia and then the train will return back to Florence.
For the entire journey, traction will be exclusively entrusted to the steam locomotive without the aid of any modern locomotive!

🥂CELEBRATE NEW YEAR’S EVE LIKE A REAL ITALIAN: italian traditions for Capodanno 🎆
1. COTECHINO E LENTICCHIE
When it comes to the Cenone (literally "The Big Dinner"), italians tend to prefer home organized gatherings, maybe at some friends' place, rather than head out to a restaurant. Italian tradition sees to eat cotechino e lenticchie (pig’s trotter and lentils); you might see many supermarkets selling pre-packed trotters before New Year’s Eve. Eating pig's trotter and lentils before midnight brings luck for the New Year: pig’s trotters contains a high fat content and symbolises abundance while, lentils, round, flat and golden-brown in color, resemble gold coins. Eat them both, and plenty of money will get into your pocket in the new year.
2. FIREWORKS
New Year’s Eve is celebrated with a riot of bangs and colours. Big cities set their fireworks shows at midnight, but also families have fun setting their own in their gardens or neighboorhood. The habit of using fireworks on New Year's Eve is apparently linked to demons and evil spirits, who don't like loud noises, and keeps them away.
3. RED UNDERWEAR
Keeping a red underwear on you on New Year's Eve, symbolically helps to fend off evil and negativity. It is important, however, to remember a couple of things: first of all, your red underwear must be brand new and ideally has to come to you as a gift. In other words, if you buy it for yourself, you're cheating. You will see that right after Christmas...shop windows will be full of red underwear both for men and women!
4. TOMBOLA
It's not New Year's Eve unless Italians play at least one game of tombola. Just like bingo, tombola is one of those cross-generational games that never gets old.
If you happen to be in Italy over Capodanno, you're now ready to participate with skill and knowledge to at least some of Italian favorite rituals, buon anno!

Who is Lorenzo Fagnoni?
Born in Florence, Florentine by birth, cosmopolitan by choice, he worked and lived in Amsterdam, Milan and London. He has always been in love with Florence and he loves to value the traditions and typicality of Florence in the world. Tourist hospitality is in its DNA.
What’s the story behind Apartments Florence?
Apartments Florence was born about ten years ago as a family-run activity managed by me and my wife Ana. It was not our main job, but just a secondary work. We were renting a handful of apartments from our family. Later on, we started renting other apartments on behalf of relatives and friends. Day by day, the company has grown up and it is now managed by a group of determined and passionate professionals and friends, including me and Niccolò Degli Alessandri. Today we manage more than 300 exceptionally well located properties in the heart of our beloved Florence and very close to the main attractions. In our portfolio you will also find different solutions, located in less known areas of the city.
