📌 SAVE THIS POST IF YOU don’t want to look like a tourist in Italy 😊

Everyone says it: Italy is the most beautiful country in the world. But there are some prejudices or beliefs that it is good to dispel if you want to make a good impression in the "bel paese":
1️⃣ Italy is always sunny and warm. This is not really true: we have rainy and cold winter especially in the northern/central region. Some hotels
on the coast are closed in winter and they just open from April through October.
2️⃣ Pizza ingredients are the same as in the US: sometimes. Though , Italians don’t know what is pizza with “pepperoni” and generally don’t put things like pineapple on it for instance
3️⃣ Italy is not a safe country, watch out for the snatchers. This is not true or at least this is trues as in any other country. Crowded places,
train station, city centers are as dangerous like in any other big city. The solution is not to show off and avoid wearing expensive watches or jewels like you would do elsewhere to feel safer.
4️⃣ You can taste fresh pressed olive oil in any other period of the year: unfortunately not. Newly pressed olive oil is available just after olive harvest moths thus November and December.

How to visit MILAN in 3 days

DAY 1️⃣ Visit the Duomo (I recommend to book the Duomo pass lift which allows access to the Duomo rooftop and enjoy the amazing view of and from the spiers )
Walk through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele and visit the museum of La Scala Theatre 🎭
Have dinner in Brera and don’t forget to have a Spritz 🍹
Day 2️⃣ Visit the famous fresco Last Supper by Leonardo Da Vinci 🎨(book tickets at least one month in advance as it gets sold out very easily - max time allowed inside is 10minutes so I recommend to use have a guided tour to make the most of it)
Have a stroll along the canals of the Navigli and stop for lunch or a drink 🥂
Day 3️⃣ Visit the new “face” of Milan: Citylife and Piazza G*e Aulenti and indulge in the most unbridled shopping 🛍

👉🏻5 important things to know before visiting

Here is a list of things that you can preview or plan in advance to make your stay in one of the most visited city in the world as smooth as possible :

1️⃣The entrance to Florence Cathedral , is free (but) there is a long line to get inside and it's not possible to anyone to skip that line, even if you have a guide (few years ago guides had a priority entrance, now anymore). The climbing of the Dome instead, requires mandatory reservation.

2️⃣There is a strict dresscode to get inside any church: women must have knees and shoulder covered. This is a rule to keep in mind especially in summertime, for this reason, it is recommendable to always have a scarf with you in case of need.

3️⃣World known museums like the Uffizi and the Accademia require reservation unless you want to spend precious hours of your time queuing to get in. This is particularly recommendable from March through October and during weekend when reservation is mandatory for these 2 museums.

4️⃣ I know that all of you would like to see Botticelli's Venus and Michelangelo's David, though, keep in mind that it’s in the lesser known places that you’ll have the greatest experiences and memories. There are hidden gems and amazing works of art made by great artists hidden in lesser known churches or museum like the Bargello, Santo Spirito or San Miniato Church, Santa Felicita, Casa Siviero, Museo Bardini, Museo Horne...

5️⃣ Bags, backpacks and umbrellas, big bottles of water, are not always allowed inside museums. Sometimes you will be requested to leave them at the wardrobe. Remind not to carry knives (even the smallest!) in your pockets during your tours. There are metal detectors in any museum of the city and you will be requested to leave them at the entrance.

What does the facade of this church have to do with today’s date, November 1st?

Today is or All Saints day, a day dedicated to all Saints and Martyrs celebrated in Italy as a national holiday.

This is the Church of Ognissanti in . Behind the baroque facade the church reveals amazing paintings and frescoes by Domenico del Ghirlandaio and Sandro Botticelli and this is also the place where the famous painter is buried.

Many of the paintings where commissioned by the Vespucci family a noble family of Florence which counts among its members the famous Amerigo Vespucci.

📍Riomaggiore is the most southern village of the Cinque Terre, situated just a few minutes by train from La Spezia.⁠
The town climbs up along the ridges overlooking the sea and it is characterized from the typical stone houses with coloured façades and slate-roofs.⁠

In Riomaggiore starts the Via dell’Amore, Lover’s Lane, a wonderful path known for the romantic atmosphere and amazing landscapes. It leads to Manarola and it takes twenty minutes walking. Unfortunately now this path is temporary closed as it was destroyed some years ago by a terrible storm⁠

The Cinque Terre villages are linked by a network of paths offering the best opportunity to truly enjoy the unique landscape. If you don't want to walk, the best way to visit the Cinque Terre is taking the train to la Spezia and then from here take the local train that connects regularly the five villages (one about every 20 min) OR reach Riomaggiore by train and take the Ferry boat which stops in each of the five villages except Corniglia which is on a hill and not by the sea.⁠

So many Sundays spent taking my girls for a ride on the Ancient Tuscan Carousel in Piazza della Repubblica!! In the historic center, in one of the most beautiful squares in , you can find . Built in the early 1900s and completely renovated in 1997 by the Picci family, historical owners, it is open 365 days a year from 10:00 to 24:00. A meeting point for the children of the city but also a wonderful attraction for the many tourists who like to take a souvenir photo home with them.

Here are some clarifications about the requirements for non essential traveling to Italy from abroad:
✅ show a proof of vaccination: Green pass for European travelers, CDC certificate for American travelers, any form of vaccination certificate for non essential travelers from other countries allowed to Italy (see list C D of the website www.viaggiaresicuri.it)
✅ European Digital Passenger Locator Form (d PLF) filled out
✅ negative Covid Test made within 72hrs of departure (48hrs for UK travelers)

Once in Italy 🇮🇹:

✅ masks outdoor are NOT mandatory
✅ masks indoor ARE mandatory
✅ possible to eat in restaurants outdoor without specific requirements
✅ Green pass or Equivalent Vaccination certificates are mandatory for Indoor Museums, Restaurants, Gym, trains and flights. For not vaccinated it is possible to show a negative Covid test Made within 48 hours to have access to the above mentioned places
✅ kids under 12 yes old do not need the above mentioned requirements to have access to the above mentioned indoor places.

Located on the Elba Island in a charming villa from the 1800s, the Hotel Villa Ottone is an elegant, quiet and classy small hotel with private beach immersed in a beautiful park with a stunning view on Portoferraio and its bay. Difficult not to fall in love with it ❤️
P.S. often fully booked, if you don’t have the chance to overnight there, have a cocktail on the terrace served by Paolo, the super-professional and knowledgeable bartender who can prepare thousands of excellent cocktails for all tastes
