In this way they could easily travel from the capital of the Empire to the most important port in Italy, used for trading with Greece and the Middle East.

San Galgano is, for sure, one of the most popular and beautiful churches in Italy.

But why this Abbey has no roof?

The roof fell down in 1786 when, during a strong storm, the bell tower was struck by lightning.
After that, the monks decided not to build the roof again. They deconsecrated the church and started to use it as a stable.
Near the church, Saint Galgano stuck a sword in a rock when he decided to convert to Christianity.

Ivrea’s Battle of oranges is a medieval carnival of international importance due to its meaning and historical importance.

It was invented to symbolize the fights between the population and the tyrants and the nobles in general.

The battle is held during the last 3 days of the carnival, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Citizens are divided into different groups, some sit on allegorical floats, representing the tyrants while larger groups, hundreds of men and women, representing the population, fight from the streets against enemies throwing oranges at the floats.

At the end of the carnival, a special commission rewards the strongest groups and the most beautiful floats.

Tourists are welcome to watch, in the safest way, this unique event that they can’t see anywhere else in the world. 🍊🥷🏻

Today our team tried one of Florence's most traditional artisan works, the paper marble. Our artisan told us the history of paper marble, coming from Asia and arriving in Venice and all over Italy during the Middle Ages. The Florentine artisans soon became experts in this new technique, mostly used to decorate books 📖 After a quick demonstration, we had the chance to create our own paper marble choosing from different decorations and colors 🎨 At the end of the class, we took with us our paper as the most beautiful souvenir we could find in Florence! 💖
