Vulcano is the first island you meet coming from Milazzo and already near the port, you are amazed by the beauty of the place and the acrid smell of sulfur that permeates the air. Famous for mud baths, hot waters, trekking on the top of the Fossa delle Fucine volcano, now dormant but with numerous fumaroles that invest the whole island with a strong smell of sulfur. The Great Crater is about 290 meters high. from which you can enjoy a spectacular view of the whole archipelago. The island boasts beautiful black beaches and tiny bays of crystal clear sea enclosed between the promontories. The interior of the island is splendid and it is worth a 360° visit.
Lipari instead the largest and most populated with a town well equipped to find anything. As many as 12 volcanoes, now extinct, have shaped it over the millennia making it extraordinary. Great fun in the evening. Famous for the pumice mountains that occupy a quarter of the island's surface.
Salina is the most appreciated by naturalists and trekking lovers. It was born from two great extinct volcanoes, two twin mountains: Fossa delle Felci (962 m) and Monte dei Porri, covered by a thick vegetation mantle. Inside the old crater there is a beautiful chestnut forest. Salina, a nature reserve! It is the second largest, after Lipari, and is famous for its excellent Malvasia, it has seduced several directors who have chosen it as a location for filming such as the film "Il Postino".
Panarea is the smallest of the seven. Ideal landing place for a very pleasant walk among hibiscuses, caper plants and bougainvilleas, with a view of the splendid islets that frame it. Basiluzzo, Lisca Bianca, Dattilo, Bottaro, Lisca Nera, and Le formiche, together with Panarea can almost be considered an archipelago in itself. Also known for being the refuge of well-known personalities from the world jet-set and for its high archaeological value. Stromboli is the ideal destination for those seeking contact with nature. On summer nights it is easy to admire the Sciara del Fuoco (descent of fire), a valley of dark sand on which the erupted and incandescent materials roll down to the sea.
Finally there are Alicudi and Filicudi, the smallest and wildest where there are no roads but only mule tracks, donkeys and paths adorned with heather which give themselves a characteristic pinkish purple color
