The castle of Monti stands on a hill next to the homonymous village, on the right bank of the Taverone stream, overlooking the communication routes for the Apennines, towards Emilia and the Garfagnana.
It’s only one of the many defensive structures that can be found in Lunigiana, often called the "Land of the Hundred Castles". The area is a succession of castles, towers and manors; sometimes they are only ruins but still fascinating.
The castle of Monti is very well preserved and possible to be visited thanks to the guided tours of

About half an hour by car from Le Agavi del Golfo, up on the hills lays Montemarcello, a beautiful village with astonishing views on the Gulf of La Spezia and the Apuanian Alps.

Its territory is part of the regional natural park of Montemarcello-Magra established in 1985; an ideal area for hiking, with gems waiting to be discovered.

Brugnato, chosen as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and awarded with the prestigious "Orange Flag" (Bandiera Arancione) by the Italian Touring Club since 2006, is one of the Italian villages involved in the “Giornate del FAI” event that promotes the hidden gems of our country.

It was obviously not the first time we visited the Naval Museum of La Spezia, but this time we went with a guided tour organized by to specifically admire the new figurehead room, a collection which is unique in the world. 26 of the 28 wooden figures that make up the collection come from military ships and were the protagonists of the events linked to the Risorgimento, which led to the unification of Italy. The oldest figurehead dates back to 1783 and belonged to a Bourbon frigate that fought alongside Admiral Nelson's fleet against the Napoleonic one. Really an interesting visit that we also recommend to our guests. Thanks to our favorite guide Diego Savani for always giving us the opportunity to learn more about our local beauties.

Agave in Liguria by the local painter Agostino Fossati (1830-1904).
The permanent exhibition can be visited at Museo Lia. Through Fossati’ paintings, viewers can have an idea of how the La Spezia area was in the mid of the nineteenth century.
We had the pleasure to visit the museum with a guided tour by - our favourite local guide 🌼

What a nice sunny day in La Spezia! ☀️

The Tahon di Revel pedestrian bridge redesigned part of the promenade of La Spezia, connecting the Morin seafront area to the Mirabello Tourist Port.
The bridge was designed as a natural continuation of the pedestrian urban axis that constitutes the backbone of the historic center (Via del Prione-Via Diaz). This sense of continuation was particularly appreciated by the population who, once the building was finished, began to intensely frequent an area of the city which had been considered marginal, electing it as the protagonist of their walks.

Villa Rezzola is an ancient noble villa immersed in a large and luxuriant terraced garden. Already mentioned in documents dating back to the eighteenth century, it stands on medieval remains of a military tower and was progressively enlarged and modernized in the following two centuries. In 1900 it was bought by Helen Lavinia and William Percy Cochrane, authors of most of the transformations. The property passed in 1935 to Countess Mara Braida Carnevale and then to her daughter Maria Adele known as Pupa, who lived here with her husband Piero Gualberto Miniati and who, with him, decided to leave Villa Rezzola as an inheritance to FAI "so that it could be protected, valued and made accessible to many visitors ".
Just few minutes by car from Le Agavi del Golfo

Vernazza is probably the most characteristic village of the Cinque Terre and is classified as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.

Reaching Vernazza by sea is the ideal way to enjoy the breathtaking view of the tiny port, with its colourful buildings and the charming piazza lined with good restaurants and bars.

Tinetto, along with Tino and Palamaria, is part of an archipelago of three closely spaced islands located south from the mainland of Portovenere. In 1997 the archipelago was designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
Separated from Tino island by some semi-submerged rocks, Tinetto represents the smallest of the three islands, covering an area of just over half a hectare. Despite its very modest dimensions, its profile and harsh and dramatic natural environment, it’s similar to the one of Tino. The first monastic settlement, dating back to the sixth century, was established on Tinetto, before expanding on the islands of Tino and Palmaria.
To get close to Tinetto you can take advantage of “Giro delle Isole - Tour of the Islands” departing from Portovenere.golfodeipoeti

A dinner with a view 🤩

Built on a high rock above sea level, Manarola is one of the five charming villages that made up the famous Cinque Terre. The typical and picturesque multicoloured houses overlooking the sea, the cozy “piazza” with its local and seafood restaurants and the beautiful harbor with fishermen boats will surely steal your heart.

Today, thanks to our dear , who is right there relaxing and sunbathing, we share an amazing view of Portovenere from Palmaria, one of the three islands located in our beautiful gulf. Just a short boat or ferry ride from La Spezia or Portovenere, Palmaria attracts locals and tourists with its wonderful nature and hiking trails. Its charming beaches, ragged cliffs, clear blue waters and caves that can only be reached by boat. The island is a protected area since 1997, when along with Tino and Tinetto , Portovenere and Cinque Terre , have been included in the UNESCO world heritage list .

Our apartment is only 6km far from the center of La Spezia.
Located roughly midway between Genoa and Pisa, on the “Riviera di Levante”, La Spezia is not only a convenient stop en route to Cinque Terre, thanks to its affordable stays. Beyond a working-class port and naval base, La Spezia offers archaeological and maritime museums, a hilltop castle, a beautiful sea-side walk and an old town where travelers can explore and taste the local cuisine.
