When is your favorite time in Salento? I love September through Christmas. Wonderful weather(still two good beach months, but with few to no tourists). Great hiking and exploring weather and tuen the magic of Natale in Puglia. Summer is meraviglioso, ma io amore Autumno

What makes Casa Mare and San Cataldo so special? It’s a combination of having everything at your fingertips and “la dolce fara niente.” The little town of San Cataldo is quiet and slow, non-gentrified and peaceful. The pristine beaches and the ocean beckons and you can spend your days contemplating and playing in the ocean water. But you also just minutes away from one of the most beautiful and historical cities in Italy, Lecce with all that implies. Imagine a day that begins with a coffee at the local bar Yvonne’s, right across the street from the Casa Mare. Fortified by coffee you hike a whole hundred meters and after passing by the ruins of an old Roman pier from emperor Adrian’s day you find yourself walking on the beautiful wide open beach meeting eyes with the blue green Adriatic Sea. If you’re lucky and the clouds are just right you’ll be able to see Albania. You’re standing literally on the southern tip of Europe where the world begins outside Italy. After a day on the beach and perhaps a visit to the magical Grotto Della Poesia and an afternoon coffee you make the ten minute trip into Lecce and view the psychodelic baroque church, San Croce and stroll the ancient centro Storico before finding world class dining beneath the starry light. La dolce vita. Davvero!!

A quick 10 chilometri away is Lecce, the Firenze of the South. Fabulous baroque architecture, large piazze, food and Roman ruins.Nightlife and starred ristoranti. A couple photos fro my times in Lecce.
