Coronavirus: Some useful and important information from the travel agency Dolomite Mountains (dolomitemountains.com)
Updated 4 March 2020 –
The health and safety of our guests, guides, and staff is a top priority for us here at Dolomite Mountains. The Coronavirus (Covid-19) has posed a challenge to commerce and travel world-wide, leaving many would-be travelers wondering what to do. We understand your concerns, and we are closely monitoring the situation, following the guidance of Italian national and International health organizations including the Italian National Institute of Health (Istituto Superiore di Sanità), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). While there have been cases reported in northern Italy, we’d like to assure you that this has not affected our guests, team, or trip operations. As of today, we plan to run all our trips unless travel is restricted by local or global authorities.
We are on the ground here in Italy, in the Dolomites, and we’d like provide some additional insights and context. Many media sites and news outlets have reported that Northern Italy is being isolated, and this may be misleading. The reality is that this isolation is taking place in a very small area, hundreds of miles away from the Dolomites. The Italian Government has taken measures to isolate a few towns where suspected cases have been identified – one town in the Veneto region, and a small cluster of 10 towns in the Lombardy region, one hour southeast of Milan, and more than over 340 kilometers (211 miles) from us here in the Dolomites.
The current (and isolated) cases of Coronavirus have not affected travel to and from the Dolomites region. It has not impacted any of our trips that are currently running, or any upcoming departures. Most flights in and out of Venice and Innsbruck are operating as usual, and ground transport to and from the Dolomites from both of these locations is not restricted in any way.
If you still have concerns, the following resources can provide you with additional information:
The World Health Organization (WHO) has been issuing daily updates on its website.
The Italian National Institute of Health (Istituto Superiore di Sanità, ISS, in Italian).
For US Citizens, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is an excellent resource.
For current travel, existing bookings, and/or planning for the coming summer in the Dolomites:
Check our travel protection page for information on the best travel insurance packages with Global Rescue, including “cancel for any reason” policies.
Check with your personal travel insurance carrier to determine whether world health events are covered.
For those with winter ski travel plans in the Dolomites, Dolomiti Superski is providing Coronavirus updates on their website.
Again, this is a fluid situation, which we are monitoring carefully. We want to assure you, everything here in the Dolomites is currently operating as normal, with all our trips departing without disruption. The health and safety of all our guests, guides, staff, friends, and family is our top priority.
We look forward to seeing you on one of our trips this year, in the Dolomites and Beyond!
