Ready to go to the frantoio.
We’ve been back about ten days and I am missing Abruzzo already.
When we left there they were just wrapping up the years “raccolta d’ulivi” the yearly olive harvest.
This year it was pretty dry so the yield wasn’t as good as usual but although there was less olives the oil was still of high quality and more concentrated 🥰.
There is nothing like the smell of freshly pressed olives.
Here I am with Enzo in Loreto Aprutino where we also buy their home made preservatives free Monte Pulciano wine.
The pastore Abruzzese is never too far away
One of the first meals we had to have when we went back to Abruzzo recently is the local iconic food arrosticini, it always amazes us how something cooked so simply can taste so delicious, I am convinced it the pasture in Italy that makes it taste so good.
I am still a bit Jet lagged I think.😀🍷🍷
On the weekend we visited one of the accommodations we visit on our tours of Abruzzo.
This accommodation overlooks the lake in Barrea and villages in the distance and like all our accommodations it has plenty of rustic Abruzzese charm ☺️
When we are here for tours the sun is shining and the flowers are blooming but last weekend the first snow appeared on the mountains that morning 🏔️
First up we had home made pasta typical of this area of Marsica in Abruzzo with localy harvested wild boar.
Don’t be fooled by it’s appearance, our second cours wasn’t a pancake with maple syrup, it was cooked cheese with a reduction of sweet wine (mosto cotto)
Then for desert it was panna cotta with salted caramel 😋 we can never quite get over the taste of the custard and cream here, it’s like nothing else!!
Next tour to explore this untouched part of Italy is 11th June 2024 🥳 Send is a message for for information
We love to hear the church heels at the end of the day in the villages of Abruzzo 🔔 #abruzzo #slowtravel #smallgrouptours #italy
There’s nothing like these borghi (small villages) in the mountains of Abruzzo. They give such a cozy feeling ☺️
Just a video I took of the scenery looking back over Loreto Aprutino on our walk yesterday afternoon 🥰 #loretoaprutino #italy #italytravel #italy🇮🇹 #nadasitalytours #italytour
Just doing Abruzzese-type things 😉 Every year Marco's Aunty Giovanna makes jam fromMontepulciano D'Abruzzo grapes. Their main purpose is to go inside traditional fried Christmaspastries which look a bit like ravioli 😋 #abruzzo #italy #italytravel #authenticitalianfood #italytour #abruzzotour #italianfood #italy_vacations
We are so blessed to have this gorgeous little house in Loreto Aprutino, Abruzzo. It’s such a treasure for us 🥰 We visit Loreto Aprutino on our Tours of Abruzzo because of its stunning facade, olive oil mills, museum and village life feel. At the end our our street is a boutique brewery where it’s lovely to sit and sample the artisan beer (Katri has the Prosecco which is delish) and look out over the olive groves which this town is known for with the Majella Mountain in the background. #italytravel #italytour #smallgrouptours #smallgrouptouritaly #offthebeatenpath #abruzzotravel #abruzzo #italy #italianvillage #undiscovereditaly
