Centuries ago, someone (perhaps a pilgrim traveling to or from the Holy Land?) carved this Jerusalem Cross into the rocky pillar of this rock-hewn church in Matera. Today, a visitor bears the same symbol, tattooed on his forearm by Wassim Razzouk, the 27th generation of a family that has been passing down this tradition in Jerusalem since the 1300s.

Indiana Jones nel 1969 ha una calamita souvenir dei Sassi di Matera sul suo frigorifero. È molto probabile che un grande archeologo e un avventuriero così valoroso conoscesse la città nel 1969 (ma certo, lui conosce Matera e ci è pure stato, chissà per quale avventura!), ma è improbabile che abbia potuto trovare un souvenir simile in quegli anni. Ma che importa... è Indiana Jones 😍

Indiana Jones in 1969 has a magnet souvenir of the Sassi of Matera on his fridge. There is a good chance that a great archaeologist and such a valiant adventurer knew the city in 1969 (of course, he knows Matera and has been there, who knows for what exciting adventure!), but it is highly unlikely that he could have found a similar souvenir by then. But who cares ... he's Indiana Jones 😍

Wonderful walk with my Canadian cousin Peter Rondinone and his lovely family. Strolling through the Sassi, tasting good wine in our family wine cellar and sharing beautiful childhood memories at our grandparents' home.
