Clay, Art and Minimalism in the New MATTEOBRIONI Flagship Space in Shanghai

The new MATTEOBRIONI monobrand showroom inside the luxurious CIMEN Decoration Materials Center in Shanghai exemplifies how architecture and design can merge to create unique and evocative spaces. Designed by architect Li Chengmo from UD Studio, the showroom fully utilizes MATTEOBRIONI’s clay finishes, creating an environment that not only reflects the brand's sophisticated aesthetic but also its commitment to sustainability and environmental wellbeing.

The entrance lobby walls are coated with TerraEvoca 2 Layers artistic plaster in LATTE (milk), Polvere (dust), and Sale Grigio (grey salt) colors, providing a visually engaging and warm welcome. The ceilings follow suit with a Sale Grigio finish, while the floors feature an innovative clay and resin two-component flooring, TerraFloor Commercial Smooth in Polvere color, enhanced with a tixotropic two-component epoxy treatment for durability.

The exhibition area distinguishes itself with the fine-grain clay finish TerraVista Wabi in Pepe Nero (black pepper) color, applied in a wabi-sabi style that enhances simplicity and elegance. In the same area, walls and doors are treated with MultiTerra coarse-grain plaster, also in Pepe Nero, creating a tactile and visual texture contrast.

The flooring in the exhibition area is completed with TerraFloor Commercial Structured in Sale Grigio color, extending the visual and tactile continuity of clay throughout the space. The display also includes various panels in TerraVista Smooth in colors such as Caffè (coffee), Cannella (cinnamon), Cipria (face powder), Fango (mud), Panna (cream), Senape (mustard), Vinaccia (light wine) e Zenzero (ginger), demonstrating the versatility and extensive range of finishes available.

Large "Arazzi" wall panels crafted with TerraEvoca 2 Layers in Melograno (pomegranate) color and other materials like TerraSilk Structured and MultiTerra Smooth in the same color adorn the walls, showing how MATTEOBRIONI’s finishes can be transformed into true art elements.

This showroom is not only a meeting point for design and architecture enthusiasts but also a testament to MATTEOBRIONI's commitment to promoting sustainable, high-quality materials that reflect the Italian way of life, enhanced by the long-standing collaboration with GEECASA, the exclusive distributor for Shanghai who manages the space. This partnership emphasizes the bond between MATTEOBRIONI and its global partners, underscoring a shared commitment to excellence, innovation, and sustainability.

A Symphony of Art, Clay and Design: The Collaboration of MATTEOBRIONI with Molteni&C and Kalpa Galleries

In the illustrious setting of Giussano, Brianza, the Molteni&C Compound, renowned for its embodiment of the company's DNA and values, has unveiled its latest architectural marvel: The Pavilion. Designed by the creative genius Vincent Van Duysen, this modernist-inspired gem has recently become the stage for an exquisite art exhibition by KALPA Art Living Galleries, titled "PERENNI," showcasing the works of artists Yoshimi Futamura, Federico Gori, and Marc Ricourt. This event marries the innovative design of the Pavilion with a refined selection of art, creating a harmonious dialogue between space and creativity, available for viewing by appointment until May 2024.

The Pavilion's design is a significant addition to the Molteni&C headquarters, marking a new chapter in the Group's growth and internationalization strategy. According to Carlo Molteni, Chairman of the Molteni Group, this expansion not only complements the historic headquarters but also signals the company's forward-looking vision. The integration of the Pavilion, the first Van Duysen-signed architecture within Molteni's domain, aligns with previous reconfigurations of the company's layout, blending the original 1950s architecture with contemporary influences.

MATTEOBRIONI is proud to have contributed to this project by providing natural clay finishes, including the fine-grained TerraVista Smooth Panna, Pepe Nero and Polvere for the Pavilion's interiors and TerraTon Wall Smooth Pepe Nero and Polvere finishing plaster based on natural pozzolans clay, cement and fine-grained mineral binders for its exteriors. This collaboration with Molteni&C and the hosting of Kalpa Galleries' "PERENNI" exhibition is a testament to the enduring partnership between MATTEOBRIONI and these prestigious entities. The use of MATTEOBRIONI's finishes not only enriches the architectural fabric of the Pavilion but also complements the displayed artworks, reinforcing the critical theme of reconnecting with Nature as humanity's primal dwelling.

The "PERENNI" exhibition and the Pavilion itself stand as emblems of innovation and tradition, encapsulating the holistic vision that considers the environment, the human experience, and architectural excellence. Through this collaboration, MATTEOBRIONI, Molteni&C, and Kalpa Galleries celebrate the intersection of art, design, and sustainability, showcasing how traditional materials can be reinterpreted to craft welcoming, aesthetically captivating spaces that invite contemplation and discovery.

This partnership highlights our collective commitment to quality, sustainability, and the power of creative collaboration, making the Molteni&C Compound a beacon of Italian hospitality and design innovation.

Clay and Steel, Nature and Innovation: A Harmonious Union for the Design of Lipari Boutique in Palermo

In the vibrant heart of Palermo, Lipari eyewear boutique stands out as a significant example of design where the natural essence of clay blends with the modernity of steel, creating a unique sensory journey for each visitor. Thanks to the collaboration with Balistreri Studio, distributor of MATTEOBRIONI products, and the creativity of architect Vincenzo Pecoraro, the 85sqm space welcomes customers into an environment balanced between naturalness and technological innovation.

MATTEOBRIONI, a leader in the production of clay finishes, provided the fine-grain TerraVista Smooth plaster in Panna (cream) color, giving the space a warm welcome and a unique texture that beautifully contrasts with the coldness and brightness of the stainless steel used for display elements and furnishings. This choice of materials not only highlights the dichotomy between natural and artificial but also harmoniously balances warm and cold textures, creating an environment where natural light plays a crucial role, transforming the space into a living artwork that changes with the sunlight.

The central element of the project is undoubtedly 'The Egg', an imposing and fascinating sculpture capable of enhancing the intrinsic plastic qualities of clay, fully embodying the artistic and sensory journey of the space in which it is placed.

The long-standing collaboration between MATTEOBRIONI and Balistreri Studio has once again led to exceptional results, demonstrating a shared commitment to quality, sustainability, and innovation in the field of architecture and interior design.

Thus, Lipari becomes not only a reference point for those seeking excellence in the eyewear world but also a shining example of how traditional materials can be reinterpreted in a modern key to create welcoming, functional, and aesthetically captivating spaces.

Refined Living in the Heart of Verona: A MATTEOBRIONI and
Emanuele Soldi Architetto Collaboration

Situated in one of Verona's most distinguished squares, a short walk from the iconic Arena and enriched by the view of the historic San Nicolò all'Arena church, known for its imposing facade that embodies the city's artistic and cultural richness, this penthouse stands as a symbol of sophisticated urban living. Located on the top floor of a 1950s Neoclassical building, the approximately 500 sqm apartment has been expertly renovated to meet modern luxury demands while maintaining a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The renovation, which focused on thermal insulation and energy efficiency, has equipped the apartment with an advanced home automation system for heating, cooling, and managing electrical appliances. The redesign has cleverly separated living and sleeping areas, with distinct pathways for service areas and main routes for family and guests. Sliding panel systems allow flexible use of space, blending or dividing living areas as needed.

MATTEOBRIONI is proud to have contributed to this project with clay-based finishes that embody the essence of refined and sustainable living. The ceilings are adorned with TerraSilk Structured in Sale Grigio (grey salt) color, and the walls are finished with TerraVista Smooth in a custom color, adding unique warmth and elegance to the apartment. These finishes, chosen for their natural beauty and environmental benefits, mirror the homeowners' vision of living in harmony with their surroundings.

The interior design, merging modern and classic elements, showcases meticulous attention to detail with tailor-made spaces and furniture. The use of warm tones, black iron details, and classic Canaletto walnut panels against the clay-plastered walls creates a space that is both welcoming and distinctly elegant. This harmony of modern and classical styles reflects the residents' personal tastes, setting a new standard for city living.

Special thanks to Interior Designer Miguel Pando, who, in close collaboration with the architect and homeowners during the finishing and furnishing phase, captured the project's essence, adding value with carefully selected pieces.

This collaboration among the residents, MATTEOBRIONI, and the design team has created a living space that embodies elegance, style, simplicity, and subdued modernity with a classical touch, celebrating urban living where every detail is crafted to meet the high standards of its inhabitants, bringing their vision of home to life.

In the heart of Munich, the "Van B" project, promoted by Bauwerk and AD Architectural Digest Germany, stands out as an emblem of innovation and luxury in the real estate sector. This ambitious initiative involved ten German design studios, selected to transform each penthouse of the building, conceived by the visionary architect Ben van Berkel, co-founder of UNStudio, into a unique living space. Among these, Holzrausch GmbH Planung & Werkstätten distinguished itself by creating extraordinary interiors in one of the lofts, using products supplied by MATTEOBRIONI for wall and ceiling finishes.

Bauwerk, known for its excellence in the real estate sector, and AD Germany, the prestigious architecture and design magazine, conceived "New Perspectives: Van B Editions by AD & Bauwerk" as an opportunity to rethink luxury living, offering spaces that reflect the needs of an international and sophisticated clientele. This collaboration gave life to a series of living environments that redefine the concept of luxury, highlighting the ability of design studios to interpret and materialize innovative living visions.

Holzrausch, one of the ten selected studios, is known for its ability to create spaces that blend functionality and aesthetics, with an approach that values the quality of materials and craftsmanship. Their work in the "Holzrausch Edition Van B" is an example of how design philosophy can be translated into an environment that reflects the personality and lifestyles of its inhabitants. Using raw earth finishes provided by MATTEOBRIONI, Holzrausch was able to leverage a material that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also offers functional benefits, such as natural humidity regulation and air purification, thus contributing to creating a healthy and welcoming environment.

The long-standing collaboration between Holzrausch and MATTEOBRIONI demonstrates confidence in the added value that MATTEOBRIONI products bring to interior design projects. The raw earth finishes stand out not only for their ecological and health properties but also for their ability to add depth and character to spaces, integrating perfectly with Holzrausch's clean design and contemporary lines.

In conclusion, the "Van B" project, through the shared vision of Bauwerk, AD Germany, Ben van Berkel of UNStudio, Holzrausch, and MATTEOBRIONI, represents a milestone in luxury residential design. It demonstrates how collaboration among different industry experts can result in living spaces that not only meet the aesthetic and functional needs of residents but also promote well-being and sustainability, setting new standards for contemporary living.

29/02/2024

The Malhadinha Nova hotel in Portugal inaugurates a new space designed by Manuel Aires Mateus. His works are characterised by the play of volumes, the management of light and the use of white as a flag, although this time he has opted for an experimental use of colour.

A total of 110 square metres imbued with enveloping sensations designed by and for well-being. This is the new spa at the luxury hotel Herdade Da Malhadinha Nova, designed by Manuel Aires Mateus in Alentejo, Portugal, and conceived to offer a unique wellness space: it features an emotional shower, three treatment rooms and a sauna, with open windows overlooking the Alentejo landscape.

It is a new addition to the already completed new Malhandinha villas inspired by nature and in whose interiors MATTEOBRIONI's natural clay finishes have been applied. The new spa marks a new turning point in this more than 20-year old family project, which in recent years has made an unparalleled journey in sustainable luxury hotels.

In this new space, Aires Mateus invites guests to immerse themselves in biophilic design and natural, handcrafted materials, to connect with nature through its colours, materials and forms.

Malhadinha is located in a unique natural environment. In addition to being an ecological reserve and an agricultural reserve, organic, self-sufficient and regenerative agricultural practices have been developed on the 450 hectares of land. These practices promote the development of the biodiversity that makes this reserve so rich in species, while educating guests on the importance of Nature and its conservation. Celebrating the wine-growing landscape in which it is set was the aim of the designer Aires Mateus, and for this reason the colour green, in all its forms, is the absolute protagonist.

In keeping with this compositional approach, TerraTon Wall finishing plaster made from natural pozzolan clay, cement and fine-grained mineral binders by MATTEOBRIONI in a bespoke colour tone tending precisely towards green was applied to the exterior façades.

"This material applied to the exterior is directly related to the surrounding soil and the idea of ageing well," says the Portuguese architect.

The "Gahoe-dong DUZIP" restoration project focuses on rejuvenating the historic city center within Seoul's city walls, playing a pivotal role in Seoul's urban fabric by aiming to restore the functionality of the historic center while emphasizing its significance as a site that can elucidate the choice of location for Hanyang, the ancient name for Seoul.

The initiative seeks to bring past residential structures, specifically hanoks from the 1930s and yangoks from the 1960s, into the contemporary era, simultaneously offering an opportunity to explore Seoul's modern housing history over the last century. Through meticulously defined renovation principles and criteria for creative restoration, the project moves beyond mere formal preservation of buildings to embrace an approach grounded in the UNESCO Venice Charter's criteria, focusing on maintaining the spirit of the place rather than its original physical form.

The goal is to rediscover Korean aesthetics through the integration of hanok and yangok, thereby fostering a merger of modernity with traditional aesthetics. The Gahoe-dong area, with its vivid and colorful four seasons, becomes a metaphor for a path (Ilboilgyeong, meaning "one step, one view") that visually experiences the seasons through hanok and yangok architecture.

The project also entails creating a visual connection between the street and the buildings by demolishing a six-meter-high retaining wall and constructing a courtyard between them to allow light to pe*****te, thus emphasizing the interaction between interior and exterior spaces and the beauty of Korean architecture that begins with the varied heights of Gidan and the elegant beauty of the open Daecheong.

Choi Wook, the principal of ONE O ONE Architects, leads this project with a philosophy that values thought over form, basing architecture on the importance of the connection between the inside and the outside. His education and career, encompassing studies in Korea and Italy and international collaborations, reflect a holistic approach to architecture that seeks to harmonize innovation and tradition.

In this context, Architect Choi Wook has made a deliberate choice to use MATTEOBRIONI's clay finishing products for walls and ceilings, reflecting a commitment to sustainability and eco-friendliness, crucial aspects in contemporary architecture. MATTEOBRIONI products not only respect the environment through their eco-sustainable nature but also offer a high aesthetic profile that seamlessly integrates with the pre-existing building.

The use of natural clay for interior finishes significantly contributes to the recovery of the sense of place, emphasizing the connection with Korean construction traditions and the earth itself. These materials, known for their thermal regulation and humidity control properties, enhance the quality of interior spaces while ensuring a healthy environment for occupants. Furthermore, the understated and natural aesthetic of clay perfectly aligns with Choi Wook's design philosophy, aiming to create architectures that think beyond form, valuing the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces and between tradition and modernity.

By incorporating MATTEOBRIONI's clay finishing products, the "Gahoe-dong DUZIP" project becomes an exemplary illustration of how architecture can contribute to environmental sustainability without sacrificing elegance and aesthetic harmony. This material choice reflects a holistic construction approach that considers environmental impact, occupant health, and aesthetic integrity as fundamental components of a successful project.
