Masseria Chicerro

Masseria Chicerro Have you ever wanted to live in Italy for a little while? Stay in a small bungalow with a big view! Masseria Chicerro is secluded but not too isolated.

The bungalows are intended for those who want to stay for a longer period in Italy to get a feeling of actually living and working here. Ideal for artists, academics, writers, digital nomads and anyone really who is looking to experience the slow pace of rural living in Italy. Since the pandemic of the Corona virus and lockdowns world wide, the alternative of working online away from the office ha

s become more of an option for many. You can reach the small town Montemitro on foot in 30 minutes, and you can reach the Adriatic coast with beaches and coastal towns in 20 minutes by car. Molise is probably the most unknown and unexplored region in Italy and is the second smallest region with only two provinces; Campobasso and Isernia. The region is pristine in the sense that there is still no mass tourism to be found here, and the small villages scattered around on the hill tops has a way of live pretty much unchanged for the last 50 years, and many claim that coming to Molise is a bit like traveling back in time. You find a authenticity here that you no longer find in the more tourist crowded parts of Italy, and the pace and rhythm is slow and stress free. Molise was listed by New York Times as on of the destinations to visit in 2020 if you are in search of untrammelled, traditional Italy, the newspaper mentions draws like the pristine coastline and mountains providing a wide network of slopes for skiers. You can find Roman settlements like Saepinum which is a complex of baths and a forum that rival those in Italy’s capital , but without the crowds. Hikers can explore the routes of “Transumanza”, the centuries-old tracks, along which sheep and oxen were herded. This network of tracks did also just recently win UNESCO status. New York times also mention how festivals here are essential to the region’s culture, and throughout the year there is always a “festa” or a “sagra” to visit in Molise. The region is mainly rural with many small towns with old stone houses clinging on to the mountain tops. To learn more about Masseria Chicerro visit our website:

This year’s olive harvest has come to an end. Also this year we had the fortune of working with many amazing friends who came to help. A big thank you to Maurizio from Fattoria Sociale Il Giardino dei Ciliegie for being the man with a plan.

Tonight a festival that might be the most charming of them all, takes place in Montemitro.
In the historic centre of the town, where the narrow streets will be buzzing with folk music and dance, you can try food from several countries like Croatia, Germany, USA, Norway and Romania.

The 7th and 8th of August the very first edition of the MAK festival was held in Montemitro and we hope for many more editions in the future.

Lidiya Koycheva and her Balkan Orkestra created a grand finale for this cultural initiativ last night.

In Molise you will find a large number of festivals throughout the year. The village Civitacampomarano is hosting the 8th annual street art festival CVTà Street fest from 2nd to the 4th of June.

The festival comprises three days of mural painting, street art tours, live music and workshops, once again under the artistic direction of the celebrated Roman street artist Alice Pasquini.

The idea behind the annual street art festival is to breathe new life into the largely abandoned village whose 300 mainly elderly residents embrace the thousands of visitors that arrive each June.

This year's street artists - Elléna Lourens from South Africa, Helen Bur from the UK, Hera from Germany and Dan Witz from the US - will create permanent art works over the course of the three-day festival.

Civitacampomarano is a 40 minute´s drive from Masseria Chicerro.

proprio in quegli anni. Da allora, la sua pratica artistica site-specific esplora l’interazione tra
l'opera, il contesto e il passante.

🇺🇸 Dan Witz's street art practice is a testament to the power of unexpected encounters. By
placing tiny yet impactful works in forgotten corners of our cities, Witz creates moments of
surprise that draw attention to overlooked places. His work is a reminder that a wall isn't a
canvas; it's a part of an uncontrolled environment that inevitably shapes the art created
within it.

Witz's career began in New York City in the late 1970s, when his elaborate street works
stood out against the bold, quickly-executed graffiti lettering that was proliferating around
him. Since then, his site-specific practice has become a deeply considered exploration of the
interplay between artwork, environment, and passerby.

INTRODUCTION OFFER!

Spring has arrived in Molise and 2023 will be the first full season for Masseria Chicerro. Our bungalows are mainly intended for guests who want to spend a longer period in this rural environment, but as an introduction to Masseria Chicerro, we´re inviting guests to book stays as short as 1 week during 2023.

The rates for short stays in June, July, August, and September are €50 per night.

We still have availability in May at a daily rate of €35!

You can contact us at [email protected] for bookings or requests for our monthly rates.

The bungalows are small but practical, with a bedroom, bathroom and a combined kitchen and living area with a private terrace. Each bungalow has a small washing machine, air conditioning and free Wifi. All windows and doors are equipped with mosquito nets. The units are designed to accommodate one person, but are also suitable for couples.

Masseria Chicerrro is located a 30 minutes’ walk from the village Montemitro, so we recommend renting a car to get around. However, several guests stayed without cars--it just requires a bit more planning to get around.

Molise is probably the most unknown and unexplored region in Italy and is the second smallest region with only two provinces; Campobasso and Isernia. The region is pristine; there is still no mass tourism here, and the small villages scattered around on the hilltops have a way of life that´s pretty much unchanged for the last 50 years, and many claims that coming to Molise is a bit like traveling back in time. You find an authenticity here that you no longer find in the more tourist-crowded parts of Italy, and the pace and rhythm of life is slow and stress free.
You can reach the Adriatic coast with blue Flag certified beaches in 20 minutes by car, and the bigger coastal towns like Vasto and Termoli, are only 40 minutes away.

The closest airports you will find in Pescara (1h 15min), Naples (2h), and Bari (2h 20 min).
Fiumicino airport in Roma is 3 hours away by car or 4 to 5 hours if you take the bus directly from the airport.

Don´t be a stranger, send us an e-mail at [email protected] and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have about staying at Masseria Chicerro.
